We hiked 13 miles yesterday and 5.5 miles this morning to stay in Hiawassee. We're staying at the Hiawassee Inn, in walking distance of the library, post office, grocery store, and an all you can eat buffet. Mmm-hmm. The folks who run the inn are great--running a shuttle to and from the trail, giving info and advice, and even driving me up to the outfitters to replace the platypus straw that I melted in last night's campfire. And at the outdoor store, people were even nicer. The owner, who hiked the trail in '95, replaced my bent trekking pole for free, no questions asked. Amazing.
