Pathways-Life After Cancer is a non-profit organization that considers cancer a wake-up call to refocus your life. Located in Asheville, North Carolina, the center offers cancer patients and their families supportive counseling and community support. Individuals are encouraged to enter counseling at any stage of their illness, and often find group support valuable months after completion of their medical treatment.
Philosophy:
Pathways-Life After Cancer was founded in 1977 by Dr. Lewis Rathbun M.D., who observed that his patients' attitudes, thoughts, and emotions had a powerful effect on their illness and recovery.
Research continues to demonstrate that psychosocial support and counseling services are effective interventions towards managing the impact of illness. In fact, counseling services are increasingly seen as an integral part of a comprehensive treatment program for people with life-threatening and chronic illness.
Services Offered:
A diagnosis of cancer of another life-threatening illness can create feelings of anxiety, confusion, hopelessness, and despair in both individuals and families. Pathways-Life After Cancer offers goal-oriented counseling services intended to diminish the emotional and behavioral impact of illness. Our staff of licensed and certified counselors offer:
·group psychotherapy
·counseling for adults, children, and families
·community support groups
Fees:
Pathways-Life After Cancer is a private, non-profit organization. Personal health insurance often covers most of the cost of counseling services. Funds received from donations and grants allow them to offer services at a reduced rate for those who qualify. There is no fee associated with community support groups.
Pathways-Life After Cancer is a charitable organization. All contributions are fully tax deductible.
