Beautiful morning. Beautiful day. We awoke early this morning with everyone else in the shelter. We hit the trail by 8:00, a new record for us. Liddell and I have been hiking separately during the day--meeting for lunch and at shelters at night. It's refreshing to have totally clear space around me--even when Zig-Zag says that he has seen signs of bears on the trail.

The morning stayed clear as we went over Standing Indian Mountain. The fog hung in the valleys for most of the morning while the sun filtered through the rhododendron tunnels and overhanging mountain laurels.

I can't write right now. There are too many people in this shelter who are too funny. I'm at Big Spring Shelter with a group that I know. Everyone is playing Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon and making Wookie noises on this exciting Friday evening.
