Today I chose the physical challenge, arriving in camp in record time. We woke to soft pitter-pattering on our tents. Rather than rain, we saw snow accumulating rapidly. A hot breakfast and packing were finished quickly. By the afternoon, the snow had cleared and it was a beautiful and very windy day.

I walked so fast because I wanted to be in a shelter really badly. The mice really aren't bad yet, and it's nice not to set up my tent. But I do love my tent.

My appetite is finally growing. I'll be needing a few more snacks next week in the Smokies. Tomorrow we'll hike down into the Nantahala Outdoor Center, where I spent so much time in college training in my kayak. I can hardly wait. Some friends from camp will be meeting us, and maybe Kevin will make a cameo appearance as well.
