Sketchy day. Started out early from Eckville shelter. Was almost the last one to wake up at 6:30 a.m. Most people were gone. What's this world coming to?
Northern PA has brought many stories of sketchiness. Stories of rape and murder in Southern PA. Homeless folks getting on the trail at strange places--some carrying hatchets. A family of Native Americans with a mean dog and meaner man.
Staying tonight in the Palmerton Jailhouse Hostel. Great town and kind people. The police let you into the townhouse and hikers get to stay for free. The Girl Scouts leave hospitality packets with toothbrush covers that say, "You have a friend in Palmerton." I hear there's a bar that will give thru-hikers a free beer as well. Not tonight though. Goodnight.
