Streak ends against George Washington |
Hillside traveled up to Danville, VA looking for their fourth win in a row, but fell just short losing 72-84. The loss came one day after the Hornets stunned number three Burlington Williams. Kevin Sumner led all scorers with 23 points, Anthony Ifedi was second with 21. Robert Perry also added 18. The Hornets were down as much as 28 at half time but clawed their way back into the game, at one point cutting GW's lead to only 5. This was as close as the Hornets would get though, as GW soon pulled away to seal victory. The Hornets play at Webb on Tueday, Jan. 22nd. |

Round 1 : Southern Durham |
From the beginning of the night, there didn't seem to be much of a question, who was the better prepared team in this rivalry that has caught the attention of not just Durham county but that of the whole state. The Spartans of SHS dominated the game, and the whole game at that. Hillside's familiar comeback spirit seemed dampened as they came out in the second half lack luster and seemed to lack the fire that Hillside fans were used to seeing against teams as Burlington Williams and East Chapel Hill. Robert Perry scored 25 points, while Kevin Sumner and William Pierce were second in scoring with 11 each. The Hornets will get a rematch with the Spartans next Tuesday at NCCU. Photos... |

Hornets dominate Bucs of BYHS |
Less than 24 hours after their heart breaking loss to arch-rival Southern Durham, Hillside High came out with passion and ripped up conference botttom feeder, Bartlett Yancey. Even without their second leading scorer, Anthony Ifedi, the Hornets whipped up on the Bucs ending with a final score of 72-45. The schedule does not get much easier though, as the Hornets face Southern Durham (#3 in state; #1 in conference) on Tuesday and East Chapel Hill (tie #2 in conference) on Friday. |

SOUTHERN: UNDEFEATED NO MORE!! |
Southern Durham, which came into their match up with Hillside, 13-0 and #3 in the state, had a swagger to them. Of course, they had a right to, for just 5 nights earlier they had embarassed the Hornets by 19 points. But that swagger soon turned into a dazed stare as Hillside came out on all cylinders, hitting shots from everywhere. They got key rebounds, good shots, and created many scoring opportunities, that were non existent on last Thursay night. Also the defense was stellar as the Hornets virtually shut down the offense of Southern's two key stars in Anthony King and David Noel. The game was close for the entire 40 minutes, but Hillside always had that little lead. Then with time winding down, William Pierce made a key three pointer, Robert Perry took a gutsy charge, and Anthony Ifedi went to free throw line 3 times, only missing two free throws. Then with the Spartans given several chances to make a game of it, Ifedi came up with two amazing steals that proved to be the dagger in the heart of the Spartans. Pandamonium then hit NCCU's gym, and eventually lead to the flooding of the court. Perry ended up with 23 points, 13 rebounds, and Ifedi was second in scoring with 11 as the Hornets defeated Southern 66-64 |

Hornets stomp E. Chapel Hill |
Hillside made their presence known, Friday night, absolutely dominating the #13 team in the state, 72-55. East Chapel Hill, which defeated the Hornets in their previous match up, did not hit their shots and faltered under the good defensive pressure by Hillside. Robert Perry, Kevin Sumner, and Anthony Ifedi each put in very good minutes, including a crowd thrilling dunk to end the third quarter by Ifedi. This is the second to last home game for the Hornets, before the playoffs. But don't worry Hornet fans, because Hillside is almost a sure lock for the post season. Hillside's next game is February 5th against Southern Alamance. |

Burlington Williams ends Hornets' streak |
Hillside High School had their win streak ended at four games with a loss to Burlington Williams 61-78. Robert Perry led all scores with 23 and Anthony Ifedi added 20. Perry completed a double-double adding 10 rebounds but it was not enough as Williams' Kendrick Mebane was all over the floor, scoring 22. The loss put the Hornets in a tie for second with Williams. Both schools have three conference lossed which will become much more important as the playoffs near. The Hornets final game is at home on Thursday the 15th.
