KATHE
ROBIN, ROMANTIC TIMES MAGAZINE - 4 1/2 STARS! A FEBRUARY TOP PICK!
The most feared, audacious and daring pirate in the Indies is Captain Thorne,
whose fast ship and loyal crew overtake many merchant vessels. While the
men may become rich from their booty, it is revenge that drives Captain
Thorne; she seeks vengeance against the man who raped and killed her sister.
Lynnette Blackthorne is out to ruin Lord Roger by capturing as many of his
ships as possible. However, when she seizes the ship of Captain Daniel Bradley,
she gets more than she bargained for. With Daniel as her prisoner, the two
grow closer and though she scorns his gentlemanly manners, Lynnette is attracted
to him. Both strong-willed, determined and hiding dark secrets, their wills
clash as easily as their swords flash and their passions ignite. Captain
Lynnette Blackthorne ranks right up there with Emerald and Serena as the
boldest women pirates in romance. Readers who like their adventure with
a sea breeze, sexual tension on high and rapier-sharp dialogue will adore
The Maiden's Revenge.
Hillary Fields makes her mark with an unforgettable debut.
DONNA NEWMAN, UNDER THE COVERS -
Very Highly Recommended!
Lynnette Blackthorne, at twenty-three, doesn't have the luxury of a cosseted
life among Regency London's elite, to whose ranks she was born and, until
the age of 16, raised. The need for revenge against the man who shattered
her life and caused her sister's death burns constantly in her heart and
guides her every thought and deed. With the help of longtime family friend
Harry, a crusty veteran sailor, Lynnette captains the pirate ship "Maiden's
Revenge"; she has accrued great wealth for herself and her men and made
a name for herself among the other buccaneers she encounters and the shipowners
in London, particularly her nemesis, Lord Roger, whose ships she deliberately
targets in her scheme to ruin him.
Captain Daniel Bradley is a retired naval officer who has started his
own shipping company in partnership with an old friend. He is in the Caribbean,
sailing the first ship, Empire, on its maiden voyage. All his hopes and
dreams are tied up in this ship and this voyage; but luck runs against
him when he comes into the sights of Captain Thorne. The battle is swift,
and Daniel's men are no match for the ruthless, well-trained pirates.
Daniel and his ship are taken by Captain Thorne for ransom.
As Lynnette's captive on her secluded island, Daniel is allowed some liberties
since there is no way he can possibly escape. He moves among the men but
mostly he watches, lusts after and tries to steal kisses from the spirited
and beautiful Captain Thorne. Though she's not the hideous, Amazon hag
that her previous victims reported to their ship's shareholders, all the
other reports about her are true; she is definitely capable of defending
herself and besting almost any man she challenges. And challenge her,
Daniel does, with his dark beauty and mesmerizing silver eyes. For the
first time in her life, Lynnette is attracted to a man, and has to fight
the unwanted feelings engendered by the presence of Daniel. But fight
it she does, using her anger and burning need for revenge to pull her
back into focus: until Daniel challenges her to a swordfight, with a kiss
as his reward if he wins.
What a fabulous read! I find it hard to believe that this is Ms. Fields's
"maiden venture". Lest you think you won't be able to accept a plot involving
a woman buccaneer, all I can say is "Try it, you'll LOVE it!" Lynnette
is a wonderful creation: honed by circumstances to be self-reliant and
single-minded, but coaxed by the seductive Daniel to explore her woman's
sexuality and emotions. Her battle is one you know she must lose, not
only because there wouldn't be a story otherwise, but because the restoration
of her humanity depends upon it. But Daniel, strong, beautiful, charismatic
Daniel is definitely her match, and he is such a passionate, yet gentle
lover that you can't help but cheer for him. Still, the real battle is
not over Lynnette's body but over her heart and soul, and watching that
struggle through its ups and downs, as the plot unfolds and Lynnette at
last has the opportunity to execute her revenge, is what makes The
Maiden's Revenge so infinitely readable. Tender, spicy, thoroughly
entertaining from the laugh-provoking opening pages to the utterly delightful
epilogue, The Maiden's
Revenge is a must-read-today book, and will most likely find its way
on your keeper shelf, as well.
SUZANNE COLEBURN,
THE BELLES AND BEAUX OF ROMANCE -
I seem to be in pirate heaven this month! The
Maiden's Revenge by new author Hillary Fields reminds me again just
how much I love a swashbuckler. And this time the pirate is a woman. Captain
Thorne is the very beautiful Lynnette Blackthorne, as cold as steel, and
a vengeful woman who is highly skilled and determined to destroy the man
who murdered her sister and destroyed her father. No one will deter her
from this purpose. Of course, we all know once we utter a statement like
this there will be a man who will come along and try and tear down our
defenses don't we? I have to say Ms. Fields couldn't have created a more
superb specimen of manhood than that of Captain Daniel Bradley. The man
is magnificent! He is tall, with thick black hair and silvery eyes, strong
and lean, well spoken and with the manners and a gentleman. Everything
was proceeding according to plan with Captain Thorne until she captured
Daniel and his ship and held him for ransom. She takes him to her island
to await the ransom money. Daniel is determined to get the upper hand
with the beautiful pirate queen for he's never back away from a fight
yet. The two stubborn, strong willed captive and captor don't reckon with
the volatile sexual attraction that flares up between them. Wow, this
is one passionate adventure you don't want to miss! This is it, my lips
are sealed, lock, stock and barrel. The only thing you can do is by buying
this book to find out what I know-I'm ready for the next Hillary Fields
novel. The Maiden's Revenge is pirate heaven! Suzanne "Oh, For A Month
On No Name Island With Daniel, No, Make That A Year!" Coleburn "Hillary
Fields is a fresh new voice that brings a heap of fire and sensuality
to sizzle your senses, and enough treasure to fill ten pirate's chests
to overflowing with The
Maiden's Revenge."
CLIFF LEACH, ROMANTIC COMMUNICATIONS -
Lynnette Blackthorne, also known as Captain Thorne, of the pirate ship
Maiden's Revenge, sails the seas looking for ships to seize. Lynette has
become a pirate and vows one day she alone will punish the man responsible
for her sister's brutal murder. Her pirating escapades allow her to fund
her search.
Captain Thorne captures the sailing ship, Empire, and defeats her captain,
Daniel Bradley. Lynnette decides to hold Daniel for ransom. Daniel can't
believe he has been beaten, not only by a female pirate, but a sexy one
too.
Will Daniel be able to escape Captain Thorne? Does he really want to?
The Maiden's Revenge
is a superb swashbuckling romance. The dialogue is smooth and the plot
in this adventure is very creative. The colorful descriptions make you
feel as though you are sailing the high seas with Captain Thorne. Readers
will enjoy watching the chemistry grow between Daniel and Lynnette. The
scheme to hold Daniel for ransom becomes more complicated than Captain
Thorne thought it would be.
Ms. Fields' first romance novel is full of passion, action, and sexy encounters.
The Maiden's Revenge is a lively and entertaining story. Captain Thorne
is a character who shows the reader she can be a strong leader, but she
can also be very sensual when the moment is right. This story is a page-turner
and a definite keeper.
