Short Stories SMALL STYLIST

Listen to the small sounds
of her mouth working:

A dig and a lick, head bobs nose wrinkles
to eat the self
clean, and spread the remains,
unwanted, on me in tufts
(thanks, kitty).

She soothes as she grooms.

Wish her luck in this endless, rasping task,
for it seems I can see
the sprout of new fur
even as she manages the old.
