3.2 Producer Producers are the organism which can make their own food. It may be plants and algae capturing light energy and convert it to chemical energy stored in food. Or it may be the bacteria living around deep-sea vents. These bacteria take energy from chemicals coming from the Earth's interior and use it to make sugars. Other bacteria living deep underground can also produce sugars from such inorganic sources. Producers are important, since only they can produce their own food and convert energy from the environment. Therefore, they are the starting point of all food chain or web.
