Ground Examinations
Application Procedures
An applicant for a PPL is required to pass the following ground examinations, as appropriate:
Navigation
Meteorology
Aircraft (General)
Aircraft (Type)
Human Performance
Radio Telephony
* for aeroplane: Aviation Law, Flight Rules and Procedures (Aeroplane)
* for helicopter: Aviation Law, Flight Rules and Procedures (Helicopter)
The syllabuses for the PPL ground examinations are given in Part 2 Appendix A (for aeroplane) and Appendix C (for helicopter) of CAD 54.
The validity period for a pass in each examination is 12 months commencing from the end of the month in which the examination was passed.
For the conversion of a foreign PPL to a Hong Kong PPL, exemptions from examinations may be granted on the basis of previous examination results. Exemption details are stated in Part 2 Chapter 1 (for aeroplane) and Chapter 2 (for helicopter) of CAD 54.
