Ground Examinations

Instrument Rating (IR)

Applicant for an IR is normally required to have passed the Navigation Group examinations at Commercial Pilot's Licence (CPL) level and meet the flying experience requirements mentioned in paragraph 2.3.2 above.

An IR flight test is required for the initial and renewal issue of IR. The test will comprise:

Section 1:    flight procedures
        Section 2:    take-off and climb
        Section 3:    en-route
        Section 4:    holding
        Section 5:    instrument and missed approaches.

Further requirements are specified in Part 3 Chapter 10 of the CAD 54.
