and, lastly, the romanticism of an era in which sailing the globe still implied understanding and respecting the natural phenomenon of the seas that where sailed, instead of nowadays instict of fighting them with the last piece of technology available to ensure the fastest and cheapest possible trip, without the least hint of having left ones place. It was all about travelling the world, not through it.
More than just a feline
A witness of that fascinating era is H.M.S. Leopard, a fifth rate 50 gun ship of the Royal Navy. It is sadly known for leading a role in a famous incident with a ship of the recently emancipated United States, that would become a symbol of its time. The story, way too long to be told here, might serve to learn something about the doubts and tough decision making that those men had to go trough.
The project I'm currently involved with is the recreation of a 3D computer model of the Leopard. I belive it's a task well beyond my skills in this kind of design, but may it at least serve as a learning experience for similar projects in the future.
This web site is devoted to the daily development of my work in the model. May you be interested in this subject or the historical background, or just because you agree with any of the ideas I've previously stated, I sincerely hope that you enjoy your visit.
