A new dimension
The world of 3 dimensional computer assisted design has evolved increadibly in just a few years. From being a useful reference tool in areas like engineering and construction, it has evolved up to a technology capable of recreating reality with such an accuracy that human eye is no longer capable of distiguishing a real picture from computer generated image.

Just a hobby
I belive that a person that faces a new creative opportunity will have as his firts impulse to recreate whatever is his main personal pleasure. A master cook with a new kitchen at his disposal will make his favourite recipe before any other one; a music fan that purchases a brand-new piece of equipment will play his favourite tune in the first place.
The main virtue of this impulse is that it is self-justified. Our hobby means a pleasure to us in itself; without our need for an economical benefit, public aknowledgement, or any kind of compliment.

Another era
My core weakness is period sailing vessels. The ships and navies of the napoleonic wars; the character, virtues and flaws of the people that commanded and handed them; the odds against them in a world that, unveliable as it might seem nowadays, a simple message to any person in a different country would never take any less time than that needed to get there; ...
...

and, lastly, the romanticism of an era in which sailing the globe still implied understanding and respecting the natural phenomenon of the seas that where sailed, instead of nowadays instict of fighting them with the last piece of technology available to ensure the fastest and cheapest possible trip, without the least hint of having left ones place. It was all about travelling the world, not through it.

More than just a feline
A witness of that fascinating era is H.M.S. Leopard, a fifth rate 50 gun ship of the Royal Navy. It is sadly known for leading a role in a famous incident with a ship of the recently emancipated United States, that would become a symbol of its time. The story, way too long to be told here, might serve to learn something about the doubts and tough decision making that those men had to go trough.
The project I'm currently involved with is the recreation of a 3D computer model of the Leopard. I belive it's a task well beyond my skills in this kind of design, but may it at least serve as a learning experience for similar projects in the future.
This web site is devoted to the daily development of my work in the model. May you be interested in this subject or the historical background, or just because you agree with any of the ideas I've previously stated, I sincerely hope that you enjoy your visit.
