Geohound Counter-Strike Clan

General Strategy

Definitely a critical part to succeeding in Counter-Strike is to definitely go into each game with strategy. This section will mostly be for newbies learning to play counter-strike, but this could also be used for the more advanced players if they never figured out some of these strategies. These will be some basic strategies that can be performed by a Terrorist or a Counter-Terrorist and will hopefully help anyone struggling in Counter-Strike.

Camping: This is probably the most used strategy in the game. Camping in Counter-Strike is basically defined as sitting in one spot and waiting for someone to walk by and you take them out. Beware though because the more experienced players usually don't use it, and they can get killed by a much less experienced player who camps. So if you decide to camp be ready for some bashing on you during the game. I don't know why everyone gets so pissed off though. I think it's a strategy that should be used, but not the entire game. Times I think it should be used are when you are just learning the game. If you told a newbie to not camp and just run out and shoot the opposing team he would get slaughtered over and over, maybe he would get a lucky kill here and there. Another time I personally think it should be used is when you're entire team is killed off and it's like 5-1. I wouldn't necessarily call it "smart" to just rush the other team and try and win. I think it's smarter to wait them out and try and take them out any way you can. Another time I think it can be used is if you're trying to anticipate the other teams moves. If they go the same place everytime, camp, and then when you hear then coming jump out and kill them.  A strategy that's both loved and hated so you make the choice whether you want to or not.

Jumping: Another good strategy is to jump a lot. If you can get good this is extremely useful. I'm sure you've noticed while playing that's it's not the easiest task to kill someone while they're jumping around and it's not. So what do you do? You do the same thing back. You should start jumping around so it's harder to hit you. This strategy actually takes a while to master though because you also need to have good aim or you'll just be shooting mindlessly around the enemy. Just take your time and practice and you'll eventually get it down. I also suggest getting a good mouse for this because if you have a screwy mouse it's a lot harder to make the little adjustments of your aim.

Teamwork: This is kind of self-explanatory, but I think I could get a little deeper into it. Probably the best strategy is for a team to stick together. If you all are right by each other and you see the enemy you should easily take him out if it's 4-1. I have experience with that, I'll go out by myself and the other team sticks together and I've noticed that I usually die everytime. By the way don't be a wuss about this either. If you see you're teammate getting shot jump out there and start shooting with him. You probably won't even die because the enemy will be too busy shooting your friend. So you'll probably both end up living. This is a strategy especially important to newbies. Just stick by a player with a good score and you'll learn from it.

Pick good equipment: It's extremely important to always have good equipment in CS. You really can't do a lot till you have cash though so just listen to what you should do. The first round I suggest just keeping your original pistol and doing your best with it. Even if you die, you'll have more money the next round. Once you get some cash it's up to you to find out what guns you're good with and experiment with every one of them. You'll never know what gun you're best with unless you try them all. I would also suggest buying a kevlar vest and helment at the start of the round also. If it comes down to you and 1 other enemy and you've got the extra armor you'll probably win. Another good piece of equipment to pick up is an HE Grenade. Almost every round you can find use for one and it's nice when you have one. You can also use it by anticipating the enemies moves and throwing it right when the enemies show up and get their health around 50, now you have the upper hand. The most important thing though is just to experiment and find out what works best for you.
