Overview Counter-Strike is basically Terrorists vs. Counter-Terrorists. You either enter a game where you try to rescue hostages with the CT's (Counter-Terrorists) or blow up a site with the T's (Terrorists). Sound simple well it is a simple design, but the game is so much more than that. This game has so much strategy that you can never truly master the game. I got this game at the beginning of the summer and it has by far been the game I've played the most all Summer long. I've probably put in a good 30-40 hours into it and I still am not that great at it. I hear that people play this game all through the night and don't even sleep! This shows how much people are actually addicted to the game. There are two ways you can get the game. You can either download from the web or you can buy it at a store. I personally recommend downloading it because it's the same game except downloading it makes it free. If though you have a 56k like I do and don't want to wait for the 5 hour download to complete I guess you could buy it. I think the prices for it are still around 20 dollars though and you might as well save the money. You can download from lot's of places on the web. You can go to the official CS site www.counter-strike.net and get it there, there is another place called www.fileplanet.com and that's where I downloaded mine, and there are a lot of other places out there on the web. If you would like any of those other places check out the Find CS section in the Contents to the left. Now on to the actual game. Once your done downloading it and are ready to play just get into the main menu and you'll probably want to go to config. Switch any of the settings to your liking. After you get that done you could play a few training games if you like. Then you'll probably want to start into the games. On the main menu go to Play CS and then I would suggest going to customize where you pick your name and graffiti design. After you do that you can adjust your keyboard controls if you would like, but I would suggest just keeping them the same unless you're used to another fps that uses different keys. Now you're probably ready to play. You can go to quickstart, internet games, or lan games. I would prefer to go to either internet or lan games, the quickstart just puts you into the first open server, but you might not have a good connection with that server so it's really just chance. If you go to internet games you will see a ton of servers. I'm thinking there are probably around 500 dedicated servers maybe more, but there are consistently around 1,000 people constantly playing CS. The same thing happens if you have a LAN. If you try that it will show all the servers in your LAN. In either of the modes you can click on a server and then go to View Info and it'll give you stats about the server like how many people are playing, what commands you can enter, and most importantly your ping in that server. For the people who don't know ping is what kind of connection you have and the lower the ping the faster the connection. If you have a high speed connection then almost any server on CS is very playable, but for 56k users I would look for servers that are around a 250 ping for you. That keeps the game fun with little lag. Once you find a good server double click on it and you'll just go into a loading screen so just wait and eventually you'll start. That's the overview and if you want to know what to do once you start the game check the strategies and equipment sections on the left. |
