Alabama

Alabama's Horror Host history goes back to the early days of television with STERLING BREWER, up to DR. SHOCK's "Shock Theatre" in the early 80s. Currently, there are no hosts in Alabama.

Alaska

Can it really be true that there have never been any Horror Hosts in our 50th state?

Arizona

Arizona's Horrific Horror Host history (say THAT three times fast!) began with GHOULINA in the fifties and eventually came of age with DR. SCAR in the 1960s and 1970s. Arizona has been without a host of their own since.

Arkansas

Sadly, the scariest thing to come out of Arkansas was Roger Clinton's music...to our knowledge there has been no Horror Hosts in Arkansas.

California

Without a doubt, the most fertile ground for Horror Hosts! From  VAMPIRA, JOHN BARCLAY, BOB WILKINS, SEYMOUR, GHOULITA, JEEPERS CREEPERS, JOHN STANLEY and ELVIRA the list could go on and on! Today, all over California, new legends are being reborn!

Colorado

Colorado¹s original hosts include DR. YGOR and GEORGE BYRAM. Today, there are no Horror Hosts working on television.

Connecticut

In Connecticut it began with DR. ATOMIC and continued on into the 1980s and 90s with  MADD FRANK. No one has picked up where he left off, however.

Delaware

Even though "Dark Shadows" was filmed there, the smallest state in the union never had a Horror Host of their own...oh wait...that was Rhode Island...hmmmmm....not sure what Delaware is known for, but (sadly) it's not for Horror Hosts.

District of Columbia

Some television historians believe that THE BLACK CAT may actually be considered the first horror host (possibly debuting before either Zacherley or Vampira!) However,  when people think of Washington DC Horror Hosts, COUNT GORE DE VOL still rules the roost.

Florida

Three names strike terror n the hearts of all true Floridians: THE GHOSTLY HOST, M.T.GRAVES and DR. PAUL BEARER, three classic Horror Hosts! Today, two more names can be added to that list:

Georgia

BESTOINK DOOLEY, COUNT JUSTIN SANE, COUNT MURRAY were all part of the fabric of Horror Hosts in Georgia.

Hawaii

Yes! Hawaii had a Horror Host (and, no, it wasn't Vincent Price from that old BRADY BUNCH episode!). HILO HEADLEY hosted Hawaiian Horror (say that three times fast!) during the 1990s.

Idaho

Boise's very own horror host, during the 1970s and 1980s, was none other than  PROFESSOR JASPER FARNDARK, host of Peculiar Playhouse.

Illinois

Illinois Horror Hosting was really put on the map with SVENGOOLIE in the early 1970s, and later with SON OF SVENGOOLIE (1979-1986), who later became simply SVENGOOLIE.  Got that? Today, Illinois is a virtual hot bed of Horror Host activity!

Indiana

Among the many (!) hosts in Indiana's past, there was COUNTESS LUTZIKA, THE SHROUD, SAMMY TERRY,  and A. Ghastlee Ghoul's hero, BARON VON WOLFSTEIN. Thankfully, today, there is still some haunting being done:

Iowa

Cedar Rapids boasted  THE MAD MAN in the 1950's. Later, the airwaves were invaded by DR. MORBIUS in the mid 1980s.

Kansas

THE HOST AND RODNEY hosted their version of Nightmare, in Wichita, from 1958 up until the early 1970s.

Kentucky

A little known fellow by the name of M.T. GRAVES hosted Night of Terror in the early 1970s, before making a (new) name for himself in Washington DC. Later, in Lexington, Kentucky MILLICENT B. GHASTLY  hosted Monsterpiece Theatre in the mid 1980s.

Louisiana

Baton Rouge had the very fiendish COUNT MACABRE in the late 1960s, while New Orleans (home of Anne Rice) had a thirty year reign of none other than  DR. MORGUS.

Maine

I guess when you are the home state of Stephen King you don't need no stinkin' Horror Hosts.

Maryland

The Baltimore Shock package of the late 1950s had  DR. LUCIFER AND MRS. LUCIFER as their hosts, however it was GHOST HOST out of Baltimore, and COUNT GORE out of Washington DC, who most Marylanders remember fondly.

Massachusetts

In the 1970s Boston had both  CECIL and later DALE DORMAN host their version of Creature Feature.

Michigan

COUNT ZAPPULA and SIR GRAVES GHASTLY  both had nice long runs on Michigan television.

Minnesota

PROFESSOR FANTASTIC tried his hand at Fantastic Theatre in the mid-sixties, while GRAVES AND GRAVES DADDY hosted  the original Horror Incorporated in the mid 1970s. Apocalypse

Mississippi

In the early '70's one of the stations in Jackson had a female horror host named Scartishia. Funny, spooky.

Missouri

GREGORY GRAVE hosted Shock! in the late 1960s and early 1970s. However, it was the unforgettable MISTY BREW (1986-1990) that most people still remember!

Montana

Nope...no horror hosts here. It's been a long time coming, too!

Nebraska

MADAME CADAVER hosted flicks in the early to mid 1970s, but it was Omaha's own, DR. SAN GUINARY, that most people still recall fondly.

Nevada

The history of Nevada Horror Hosts is now!

New Hampshire

When I think of these states that have never had a local horror host to call their very own, I get very, very sad. In fact, I get ever so sad that a tear comes to my eye...my left one...and I shed it.

New Jersey

The world famous Horror Host,  ZACHERLEY, hosted a teen dance show (Disc-O-Teen) in the mid-1960s, but surprisingly no movie shows. Not until Halloween Jack came to town!

New Mexico

CAPTAIN SPACE  hosted movies in the mid 1970s.

New York

A number of hosts have come and gone in New York, but (no shock here) the history of Horror Hosts here begin with the one and only ZACHERLEY.

North Carolina

MAD DADDY in the 1950s, and DR. EVIL in the 1960s, and JESSE HELMS in the...sorry...bad joke...ANYWAY, Greensboro has a rich past of Horror Hosts that continues today as some of the best Horror Hosts across the country, as Greensboro becomes the first city (without a Horror Host) to sponsor The Horror Host Underground:

North Dakota

MADD FRANK was seen both in Fargo ("Ya-AH!") as well as Hartford/New haven, Connecticut. (Now THAT is a syndication deal!)

Ohio

It's just not right how many hosts come out of Ohio. Not just the legends of the past (FRITZ THE NITE OWL,  GHOULARDI, HOOLIHAN, THE COOL GHOUL), but the Horror Hosts of today!

Oklahoma

COUNT GREGORE was the long running host of such shows as Shock Theatre, Thriller Theater, Nightmare, Sleepwalker's Matinee and Count Gregore Presents from 1958 into the 1970's

Oregon

Portland's hosts went from TARANTULA GHOUL in the late 1950s to VICTOR IVES and JIMMY HOLLISTER in the mid 1970s.

Pennsylvania

Another rich land of horror hosts! The birthplace of  ROLAND (a.k.a. Zacherley) in the 1950s, as well as the much beloved CHILLY BILLY CARDILLE.

Rhode Island

In the early 1990s  DR. MONGO hosted  Dr. Mongo's Midnight Movie.

South Carolina

THE GRAVEDIGGER in the 1960s.... DR. SHROUD in the 1960s and 1970s... ASHLEY GHASTLY in the late 1970s and 1980s...and look! No jokes about Strom Thurman!

South Dakota

Maybe Sioux Falls had the best named Horror Host in the early 1980s: WHAT'S HIS FACE.

Tennessee

The names are legendary: DR. LUCIFUR,  THE COUNT OF FIVE, HUMPHREY THE HUNCHBACK and  SIR CECIL CREAPE have all haunted the television sets in Arrested Development's favorite state.

Texas

It takes some tough men to host Horror Movies in Texas, and over the years that job was done by the likes of some nasty critters like GORGON THE GRUESOME or PROFESSOR CERBERUS

Utah

Salt Lake City not only hosted the 2002 Winter Olympics, but it also hosted such hosts as DR. VOLAPUC and FIREMAN FRANK over the years.

Vermont

When we launched this site back in February of 2002, we had no idea that Vermont not only EVER had a Horror Host to call their very own, but that there was one on the air that very day! Thirty-one months later, and he FINALLY gets a hold of us! What took ya so long! haha!

Virginia

THE BOWMAN BODY spent a good many years traveling all over the Commonwealth of Virginia  (Charlottesville, Richmond, Fairfax), and was even one of the two major influences on Northern Virginia's current Horror Host: DR. SARCOFIGUY.

Washington

Seattle had one foot in the grave back in the 1950s with WARREN REED AND FRANKIE, and later (1970s) it was none other than DR. ZINGRR.

West Virginia

GAYLORD' s Shockwatch show in the 1970s, and BILLY BLACK's Hott Sinema in the 1990s were both shown in West Virginia markets, along with other parts of the country.

Wisconsin

MR. MEPHISTO and TOULOUSE NONECK  were two of the hosts that horrified Wisconsin over the years.

Wyoming

Just because there was never a Horror Host in Wyoming, doesn't mean there can't be one in the future?
