Hoof Pick - The hoof pick is used to clean out the horse's feet. To use the hoof pick stand beside the horse facing the horse's rump. Then bend over (Do not squat because then the horse can not see you as well.) and gently pick up the horse's feet. Start from the heel and work your way to the front of the hoof. Remove the stuff out of the horse's foot by starting at the wall of the hoof and work your way in. Be careful not to hurt the frog. The frog is the soft triangular shaped area in the base of the hoof. Curry Comb- The curry comb is used to loosen dead hair, mud, and sweat off the horse's body. To use the curry comb stand beside the horse and from the shoulder to the buttock move the curry in a circular motion. Use this brush on your horse first. DO NOT use on the face and legs. Dandy Brush (Hard Brush) - The dandy brush, may also be called a hard brush, is used to remove large pieces of dust and what you brought up with the curry comb. Use short strokes to send the dirt off the horse's body. Use from the horse's shoulder to buttock. Seconded brush you use on your horse. DO NOT use on the face and legs. Body Brush (Soft Brush) - The body brush, may also be called a soft brush, is to get the horse's soft spots like the legs and to finish the horse's coat. While standing to the side of the horse gently brush the horse all over. If you are very careful you may use this brush on the horses face. This is the last brush on the horse's body you will use. Sponge or Cloth - You may use a damp sponge or cloth on the horse's face. Mane and Tail Brush - The mane and tail you can usually clean with your fingers, but you may like to use a brush. A regular human brush or comb can be used to clean the horse's main and tail. When brushing the tail remember to stand to the side of the horse so the horse can see you and so you don't get hurt.
