Do you expect to find life on Mars? Maybe, if we land on Saturday night. Jose Jimenez Now that water as been found on Mars, we are due for another round of discussions about finding "intelligent life" on the red planet. How is "science" going to recognize intelligent martian life when it finds it? It doesn't recognize the intelligent life right here on Earth. Intelligence From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia. Intelligence is a general mental capability that involves the ability to reason, plan, solve problems, think abstractly, comprehend ideas and language, and learn. Gorillas can do that, right? A more general definition from Encyclopaedia Britannica: "ability to adapt effectively to the environment, either by making a change in oneself or by changing the environment or finding a new one" There is a slime mold that lives on the forest floor that exhibits this ability. This creature is an amoeba that has very limited powers of locomotion. They are very small and reproduce every few hours by simple cell division. When they have devoured the available food, a half a million or so of these single cells will band together and form a slug-like organism. The individual cells take up the jobs of various muscles and organs and this "amalgamation" of co-operating individuals crawls off in search of food. It(they) can stay in this state for a couple of weeks while finding just the right spot and then the slug sits up on its end like a mushroom and ejects spores which become little amoebae. So amoebae, about the simplest creatures you can find, can engage in intelligent action, too. The first place we would naturally turn for a definition of intelligence would be science, right? After all, that's where our most intelligent people are supposed to be hanging out. However, they might be a little too caught up in their own hype to really look at the subject objectively. Intelligence tests are often used to quantify human intelligence. IQ scores are generally taken as an objective measure of intelligence. Science swears by them. Then these modern day magicians define intelligence this way, "Intelligence is what the IQ test measures". Ahh, huh. Are these guys scientists or politicians? However useful the IQ test might be, it gives us a bad model for use in judging intelligence outside of human kind. Because we already have this handy IQ scale, we tend to put animals on that same scale, a little further down... ya know, a little below stupid. We tend to put all other creatures on the same IQ test scale, as if they could sit at a desk and write out answers. It seems like it is our collective assumption that that intelligence is the measure of our human-ness. We seem to think that, one must be above a certain IQ level to be considered human. I think you can see the danger inherent in grading the rest of the animal kingdom on a scale designed by white male americans to establish an intellectual pecking order with them at the top. Scientific Dogma Science claims to be a system of discovery and proof that uses peer review, scientific method and other procedures to sift fact from fiction. Although this may work in many instances, the "system of science" often functions to stifle discovery by weeding out certain lines of inquiry. It is built so that a very few thoroughly indoctrinated old geezers establish the truth for the rest of us. They decide what is to be studied in the first place and lord over experiments in progress. At any time, they have the power to squash certain lines of inquiry or just particular experiments. When the experiments are finished, they have the power to support or ridicule the results as the final judges of what is truth. Unfortunately, the geezers are human and can be influenced by a variety of outside factors. The politics of scientific research is subject worth it's own article. In the old days when all knowledge was owned by the geezers and their institutes of higher learning, it was easy to keep the public in the dark. Not so anymore. Cellular Level Communications One of the areas most protected by science is the environmental communications system that connects all living things. Latest research indicates that DNA emits biophotons with laser-like synchronization that become the carrier for signals for communication between all life forms. This cellular level communication system is central to belief in religion, the occult, prayer, all things supernatural. These are the very areas labeled myth and superstition by science and given no scrutiny whatsoever. That's no accident; these are the same areas kept secret by religion and the occult. Yet to the person who makes the effort to explore some of these secret areas, it is obvious that there are real forces here that can be directed to some extent by the individual. Science, the occult and religion have gone to great lengths to keep people from learning how to use their own nervous systems. Hmmmm. For some reason it is important for science to make us believe that we humans are at the pinnacle of evolution and that we are the ONLY intelligent beings around. You might say that one of the main functions of science is to keep us in the dark regarding certain subjects. In that respect they are the same as religion... dedicated to perpetuating their own dogma. As i've said before, science is really just another christian splinter group. Scientific Blind Spot We can see that this blind spot has made for some weird bedfellows. Even though there is a mountain of evidence to support some belief in paranormal phenomena, science maintains a strict refusal to study such things. So, the military and "intelligence" communities step in. They are not interested in furthering scientific dogma; they are looking for military advantage and nothing else. The paranormal has never been tabu for warriors, in fact, warriors are some of the most superstitious and ritualistic folks around. So in the US, we have an amazing number of paranormal researchers who get hooked up with the military and/or CIA, in one way or another. A close look at many of the organizations that promote paranormal research will reveal that they are funded by the intelligence community. So we have fortune tellers and spoon benders hanging out with the spys and soldiers. By being blinded by it's own dogma, science has given us many clues as to how it all really works. To their great credit, they have unveiled the structure of the DNA. They have shown that species change by changes in that DNA. Of course the public is fed a very watered down version of genetics, but the fact that our organism is the product of the running of code, tells us a profound truth. Random Code In the last few years, millions of computer people have learned some things about systems controlled by code. One of those is that random accidents don't write usable code... intelligent coders do. There is no way that our DNA came about by accident. This DNA is very clever stuff... the kind of genius that's way off our IQ chart. From a highly intelligent species, you would expect complex undertakings, carefully planned and executed, that were successful over time. DNA is the result of just such a high level of intelligent action. A DNA based operating system runs everything we consider "alive" and has done so successfully for a very, very long time. Life is an intelligent process. DNA is a LANGUAGE! All life is intelligent, aware and capable of ideas, thought and LANGUAGE! We are a subset of that intelligence. That's what science doesn't want you to know and you don't really want to know, either. At first it might not sound like much, but once that becomes real for you, nothing will ever be the same. Human Intelligence What we have to understand is that human intelligence is a specialized type. Our type of intelligence is necessary for the kind of work we do. It uses a brain and nervous system to control/manage it's billions of cells. Although it can override the cellular level intelligence already in action in the body, it doesn't replace it. Rather it augments cellular intelligence to increase the organisms ability to act socially and manipulate matter. Granted that this form of intelligence gives us some capabilities not found in "brainless" species, but our reliance on brainpower alone leaves us wanting in other important ways. The notion that our "type" of intelligence is superior to other types is at the root of our problems today. By taking dominion over the other intelligent life forms that make up this biosphere we are showing our ignorance. We are wrecking a very intelligent system; and it is the system that sustains us. That kind of behavior just isn't very smart. Animal Intelligence One area where science and religion agree is that animals are inferior to humans and are to be exploited. Religion claims they have no soul and science no reason. Although soul and reason are both pretty hard to define, close study of real live animals proves both science and religion wrong. First, an intelligent species must be aware. It must be able to remember, plan and execute. To study it's surroundings and understand how that environment functions; develop a plan and execute it to produce expected results over a period of time. The ability to study history and plan a future based on what has been learned. It might simply be said that intelligence is the employment of strategy. Whether or not we can see that an organism show signs of awareness, if they employ strategy in the real world they must have awareness of themselves and the environment and know how to tell the difference. With this definition we are going to have to include bacteria and viruses in the intelligence club. Smart Viruses Several recent articles refer to viruses that "learn" to resist certain drugs. The reason these terms are used is because that is the best way to describe what is observed. Does that mean there is intelligent action going on here? The entire system of "virus versus immune response" reeks of intelligent action. For example: ***** from: LONDON (Reuters) 11-28-2 AIDS Virus Shows Cunning Ability To Evolve The AIDS virus HIV demonstrated its resilience when a man whose immune system was controlling one strain of the deadly virus was infected with another, underscoring the enormous challenge facing vaccine developers. "With the growing number of drug resistant viruses circulating in the population the last thing you would want to do is to be taking drugs or completely controlling your own virus and then be exposed to a virus that has already learned to escape from the effect of the drugs." **** We live within a system that is intelligent through and through. The higher the intelligence the greater you would expect their successes to be. You would expect complex undertakings, carefully planned and executed. And the ability to adapt plans to changing conditions... successfully, using available resources. Are we the most intelligent species around¤ Most certainly not. We are just learning to be intelligent. We aren't very good at making things come out like we planned, even in the very short term. For the long term, we seem utterly clueless. By looking around us and watching other species function, we have seen some very intelligent action going on. Maybe we can learn something. There are many species that have existed for billions of years, in harmony with the biosphere. Their strategies have been successful over the long haul. In the relatively short time we have been in the mix we have consistently undermined and damaged the environment. We humans have always been stupid! We modern, educated, high IQ people routinely damage and destroy our own body's cells, by the millions, in the pursuit of utter nonsense. Just knowing the truth, that you are immersed in intelligence, won't set you free, but it's a start. The many intelligent species that use these same communications channels are varied in their own survival strategies. It is like getting onto the internet expecting to make money at it. It ain't easy or safe. It is a jungle in there and you need to watch your step. This communication system is like a network made up of many intelligent entities that delight in conning gullable humans. But the truth is hiding in there, too. We are part of the natural system that sustains this biosphere. It is our species that is out of whack and causing severe degradation to the quality of life on this Planet. We have taken bad counsel from a "superior intelligence" and we now need to change our ways. Some of us won't be able to make the change. So are we going to find intelligent life on Mars? Not unless we find it here first. ******** Science, the occult and the military all join hands on this subject.
