If there was but one god, he would tell his followers to band together and He would easily rule the world. If that were true, there wouldn't be all this bickering and we humans would all be one big happy family. However, the god of each religion tells His followers that he is the only god and that the follows of other gods are mistaken. Some go so far as to tell their followers to kill the "non-believers". You might argue that all religions are worshipping the same god and the message is just misunderstood by deranged human beings. I don't think so. The message is quite clear and consistent.

The gods all claim to be the "one and only" and the creator of the Universe. They couldn't all have done it. It is obvious that somebody is lying.

Let me try this bit of logic. This god tells us that there are things that we must beware of that are NOT of god. There are false gods and demons of all sorts that god admits are outside his control. No matter what excuses the believer can come up with to justify these beings, the admission that they exist seems to indicate that this god is NOT the one and only creator of the Universe. In fact, every god claiming to be the One and Only represents only a small percentage of the world population. The chosen ones are a minority, the rest all follow false gods. Well, I guess it really is a waste of time trying to use logic on believers in the first place. People that have been brainwashed into being believers are immune to logic.

We aren't dealing with "The Creator of the Universe" here, but a very clever local god/species that literally owns us.

The Politics of Belief

From birth, everything we have been told or read about the world around us has contained a political component. All of the Truths we hold dear, everything we believe has been influenced by politics. Whether it be religious dogma or scientific "fact", it was framed as a theory and accepted as fact by groups with political agendas. This becomes quite obvious if you take an objective look at the history of either discipline. The elders of both have been constantly haggling over revisions and interpretations of their "truth". In both science and religion, the "Truth" is made out of rubber. We laugh at what they used to believe in the old days. Careful, 'cause in the next issue of the Journal of whatever Science, you will be told that the old guys had it right all along... science just proved it! No telling how long the new theory (based on the old one) will hold up, though. Could change again... any day. Then, when you get a whiff of how politics influences modern scientific research and developement, it puts the credability of science in serious doubt. They never had a clue what the "Truth" was and don't yet. I'm speaking in very general terms, here. Whether it is food and drug related research into saftey and effectiveness or the study of the origins of our species, we the public, are subjected to wildly divergent reports that only make sense within a narrow belief system that seems to be primarily interested in the accumulation of wealth and power. The "Truth" is passed out on a "need to know" basis. Only the ones at the top of the hierarchy are privy to the whole picture. Or are they? Why all the secrecy? What is who trying to hide?

Religion

To any savvy individual, religion must appear suspect from the start. Religion has too many of the earmarks of a scam to be taken seriously by anyone with any street smarts. In reality, is there any difference between a gypsy with a crystal ball and the highest priest? They both take money to talk to the "spirit world" for their clients. Both have some degree of success, but for the most part offer consolation rather than miracles.

It has been said that all religious practitioners are charlatans and fakes involved in a giant scam preying upon the weakness and fears of human beings. Then there is the history of church oppression, sexual abuse and murder that contributes to it's bad name. Religion has this split personality. On the one hand, the kind, loving, gentle spirit of love just doesn't fit with the reality of Christian soldiers.

Science

Science doesn't believe in gods, mainly because they can identify no physical mechanism that could support such an entity. They find the teachings of religion too much like mythology. Of course, we know "mythology" is just the wild imaginations of the primitive mind. Yet, in all cases, the "mythology" are holy works to their believers.

Science seems to think they know what they are talking about. The stories that the ancients came up with to explain things were just too crazy for someone grounded in science to believe. Then the almighty science claims that a random collection of gases somehow accidentally produced what we like to call, "intelligent life". They expect us to believe that the DNA, the code that makes it all work, "just happened".

In recent years, science and a few renegade researchers have discovered all the mechanisms that are necessary for gods to function. It requires a different perspective on subjects like, intelligence, drugs, behavior modification, religion and hallucinogenic plants.

Part of the power the god's have over us, is that they can tell us a few basic lies that can keep their identity a secret from us. It worked very well in the days before we could look closely at such things. Things are different, now.

Let's take the view that these ancient ones were telling the stories of what they knew about their gods and that the stories can reveal something about the source of the god's power.

Before the "one god" revolution, people had gods for different occasions and purposes. There was a god of war and another for love. We had a wine god and apparently one for almost anything else that would get you high. There seemed to be a lot of competition between the gods. Many holy books refer to major battles among the gods. It is easy for we modern folks to look down on those unenlightened people and discount their intelligence. Everybody knows that there is only one god and He is certainly above such petty human behavior. But let's take a closer look at their gods. Let's give those people some credit for intelligence. These stories of the gods were the result of many generations of observation by the smartest and most dedicated people within their culture.

Bacchus, the god of wine is a good place to start.

Bacchus has been represented as a half man, half goat with lusty tendencies. His symbol is an erect penis. If you are up on your mushroom lore you will recognize this as a reference to the amanita muscaria. Associating a god with their favorite alcoholic drink is not too hard to understand. Alcohol is a very powerful force that can severely alter the behavior of human beings. It can be a wonderful social lubricant or a personal nightmare. It is not the alcohol that is worshipped here, but the entity that "gave" them the wine.

Today, we would call the relationship between the culture, the grapes and the micro organism that produces the alcohol, symbiotic one. The three have joined in a mutually beneficial partnership. The grapes get taken care of, the human culture gains from trade plus the good times and the microorganism is guaranteed to have a good place to grow.

Unlike symbiotic relationships between animals and plants, those humans participate in are rich in ceremony and ritual. If you look at the worship of Bacchus as the recognition of a symbiotic relationship, then it makes sense. Although, they didn't have a biologist to tell them what they were doing, these people knew they were involved in a serious partnership and chose this way to honor it.

So, we can see that the people labeled this relationship as a god. We cannot deny that it is a relationship that merits a special tag. It certainly qualifies as spiritual, right? It has been known for years that there is a primary communications system operational between plants and animals. It is obvious that the ancients knew what they were doing when they worshipped multiple gods, but our educated(brainwashed) minds just can't grasp the concept.
Microorganism have a record of being capable of communication. Two places that you can find references to this are Kinship with All Life, by J. Allen Boone and Primary Perception, by Cleve Backster. A discussion of the implications of Primary Perception.

The Corn Mother

The Hopi Corn Mother is a similar relationship. The Hopi Indians hold spring ceremonies that include living sprouts of corn. They are communicating their intent directly to the corn plants. Although they are dealing with individual plants, all the corn hears. Throughout the season they communicate with their plants to reinforce the bond between humans and the Corn Mother. This arrangement has been successful for thousands of years. Both partners have reaped a reward.

We are talking about relationships between humans and real species, not supernatural spirits. The gods are not mythic beings, but living species that intake nutrients and expel waste. Throughout history there have been many plants that have acted like gods to human beings. These relationships are well documented. It is just that we moderns fail to acknowledge the intelligence around us, so it is easy for us to label such reports as superstition, New Age nonsense or just plain crazy. We just don't get it. This is no accident. We have been programmed to be blind.

The Corn Mother is a shy god and you must listen closely to hear her at all. Even Bacchus, with all his brass and bluster, is not much for talking to his followers. Their messages are subtle and not so easy for the uninitiated understand. However, there are plant gods that aren't at all shy and talk with a very loud voice. These are the hallucinogenic fungi. Click here for more about the history of these relationships.

So, the god that created the Universe may still be around and maybe some folks can tune in to It, but there is good solid evidence that we have been dealing with a lot of these lesser gods since the beginning of time. We are still dealing with them. We just don't know it.

More on the way.
