If you were to describe the epitome of a “typical business man”, one who is distinguished in appearance and calm in manner, you would be describing George Payne.
George is the owner of Forest City Business Equipment Inc. A business that began in grandmother’s basement over thirty years ago – at the time repairing typewriters. Currently, George and his eleven staff members sell, service, supply and provide support of office equipment which includes copiers, fax machines, printers, typewriters, calculators, dictation equipment and other office products. George is a very determined, hardworking man whom thinks of his employee as members of his own family.
George shared a story with me of when he was a young boy coming to London to visit his grandparents. He’d bring vegetables, which he grew in his own garden and walk up and down the street selling them to people in the neighbourhood.
Along with being the elected President of the Hamilton Road Business Association, he belongs to the Business Club of London, Mason’s Branch #344 Merrill Lodge of Dorchester, Legion Branch #176 out of Forest, and the American and Canadian Antique Car Club.
George is both proud and encouraging of the businesses in the neighbourhood. He advises other business owners that they be more in tune with what the city’s future plan’s for development may be for the area. He thinks of the area as a “gateway” and hopes that in the future, the city’s plans will include development and prosperity for all business owners.
George is thankful for his customer’s loyalty, which is what first enabled him to venture out on his own. Forest City Business Equipment Inc. prides itself on its customer service and giving something back to the community.
