This cache is a regular ammo can located in Collier County State Park on the 'Royal Palm Hammock Trail/Boardwalk'. This is a very nice little trail...and the round trip is only around a mile. Most of it is even boardwalk! Don't forego the sidetrail to the viewing platform; you'll be rewarded with a great view of the marsh. |
Check in at the CSSP ranger station:

I hope you enjoy this nice trail. This is an area of the park that has bathroom facilities, a playground for the kiddies, and even park benches for watching the manatees which frequent this area. Canoe rentals are available here as well. Shorts are OK, but under no circumstances should you forget your bug spray!
There is the beautiful HokieMary Road to Rome geocoin and a set of unactivated TB tags for the FTF and STF gifts...FTF's choice of which to take. The cache is packed with booty, bring tradeables! I hope you enjoy this terrific park, we are lucky to have it. Happy hunting!
Note: First finders please let me know your accuracy, at times the forest can be dense...

This one was still up when I downloaded points for a Holiday weekend at CSSP. Made a quick grab of this while the kids and the rest of the parents were at the playground. Coords got me within 10-15 feet, geo-mojo did the rest. Park management seems nice here and very pro-education/discovery of life. Hope they don't have heartburn from this being slightly off trail. If so, they would probably agree to a micro on-trail. TNLN TFTC! Motogrrl was here.

Rats! Just found out that I need an additional level of permission...taking this one down temporarily until all is A-OK! Please bear with me as I want to be sure to keep this wonderful park accessible to cachers by following all possible administrative requirements. Stand by...

Finally!!! Another FTF for the 'ole 'bug!!! Was scoping out caches close by and knew this was out there but when I went to the page I saw it was disabled!!! I was bummed and posted a note and Lorriebird emailed me offering info on the new co-ordinates. I wrote them down, not much difference I noticed and was off with the two tax deductions (as the Mafia calls them) to Collier Seminole. We got there and prepared for the bug fest that was sure to savage us on the quest (bug head nets and long sleeves). We soon figured out that they were not needed as the day was perfect for hiking. We traveled along the path and boardwalk and soon got to the spot and I was stumped, even with the hint Lorriebird had given me. Gave up for a few minutes after almost losing a shoe in some muck (on the wrong side ) and went to the observation deck and were greeted with muggles, so we went off to the t in the trail to wait to try again. After that I was determined to find this cache! The kids thought I was crazy, but thats the way anidanid and me cache!! I looked and looked and figured there was only a couple of places it could be and went off, the 1st two were empty, then I spied a spot that looked like it would work and lo and behold I came up with the box!! In perfect shape, dry (maybe not in full rainy season). Only problem, there was no pen in the cache!!!! Now what to do??? I thought, take a picture of the log book and box, but would anyone belive we found it (consiracy: lorribird gave him the pics, etc! ) lol. So I figured I would stash the cache nearby and walked back to the car, got a pen and tried to write the log as I was walking back, but that looked like crap. Luckily I was stuck behind a couple of muggles that went to the ob deck and I got to re wright the log. All i had to do then was wait for the muggles to leave, grab the cache, put in the log, and dash to the cache site and get a reading for Lorribird! My gps (explorist 600) gave me a reading of 8-12 ft from posted #'s. as for the FTF, I grabbed the TB tag, grabbed the Memoirs of a Giesha Book and left a Jeff Burton 1/64 scale Gain #9 Busch NASCAR die cast car. Oh, and SL This may be one of the longest logs I have ever written, I dont know! Thanks Lorriebird for getting my kids out of the house!!!!
