Difficulty:   *    Terrain:  **
EPE 12ft. Note added by anidanid-This is in Collier-Seminole State Park thus there is a fee to enter...as Dogbone says...check in at the ranger station...which is south of the cache site at the entrance to the actual park. Also, terrain varies from 2 in dry season to 4 in wet season. I have kept Dogbone's original Long Description intact for sentimental value.

Jingle Bells, Batman smells, Dogbone hid some stuff.

You may hike, or you may bike, it shouldn't be too ruff.

Of course to find, what's left behind, would be a great sensation.

To begin, you must first check in at the ranger station.

Terrain rating: 1, Even little dogs could make this one
Overall difficulty: 2, When ya get there, bark like a mad dog

ROCK ON!!

DOGBONE

Admin Note: The owner of this cache is long gone and anidanid will be taking care of it in hopes of the return of Dogbone or the Return of the Son of Dogbone someday!!

Came all the way from Melbourne, Fl just to get this one. We were camping in the area and had to get this one. We head on the back trail (some parts were quite grassy).. no mud though. We came to a spot on the trail where it said 250 feet to the cache. But it pointed off trail. We thought the traii might curve around, but it didnt, so the youngest (10) and I followed the trail someone made in the grass. It was probably "tedcool" since we saw he found the cache the same day. When we got to ground zero, we were both covered in "burs". we found the cache, signed the log and took nothing... TFTH... P.s. We camped at the park, but wished we would have picked from site 1-18 because it was too cramped on all the other sites..

Chose this one almost by accident as I was camping (try to get sites 1-18 if you can) at Collier-Seminole over the Holiday weekend. When I saw the date of the hide on my Palm, I knew it must be the oldest cache in S Fla, if not all of Fla. Sure nuff! As I log this find, I was surprised not to see more of the usual suspects logging this one. It is clear from the logs that the terrain goes up 1 or 2 clicks during the wet season. I had a pack of kids and a bone-dry trail 99.99% of the way. We saw about 20 feet of mud at the small wooden footbridge on the bike trail. Now that I can piece together other people's experiences, I would recommend staying on Old Marco Road until you are forced to turn off about .22 mi from the cache, then backtrack the way you came in if you had to wade to the cache. There is some light bushwacking the final 500 feet. If you have small children or dogs with you, take note that there is a healthy population of Caesar weed (Urena lobata) at the cache site. This is the prominent weed in PT's photo of the cache replacemet. It puts out a LOT of burrs, and my three-year old daughter quickly had 20 or so stuck in her hair about 3 min after coming off my shoulders. The trail head is slightly tricky to find. If you don't have a waypoint, it is directly adjacent to the canal. Maps can be picked up at the ranger station that you are supposed to check in at (and pay) before doing this hike.

Very nice scenery along the trail. I think Flossmor had seen several red-shouldered hawks near the cache. I heard at least two very close by when we did the find. Another hiker we passed said he saw several deer.

Took pick-up stix, purple spiky toy, rubber duck and truck. Left several bugs, army men and dinosaurs. Saw my old friend the knight. Motogrrl was here. TFTC!

Sorry for the late log, visiting from Charlotte, N.C. just got back from vacation. Lost my list of logs and trying to remember.....yeah right. I think I put Yoda Pez here, please forgive me if I didn't. It wanted to stay in swamp caches, I heard this one was going to be so I brought him along. Although the walk was a dry one, the trail to Marco was thrilling knowing it was once THE road. There was what sounded like a heavy animal in the distance which I'm glad STAYED in the distance. Thanks alot for another great Florida cache! Birdman1.

Ah, finally the Christmas Cache! And I must agree with Flashmore/Flossmoor that it was a most enjoyable dry walk! Not anything like we've been visiting lately. This was the last day of caching with my brother 'birdman1' in town for his birthday (which is today!) so we decided to make it a legend find. Left behind a new pair of AA batteries and an army man in honor of my nephew in Iraq. Took the very handsome Florida coin. Thanks to the maintainers taking care of this lovely place. Lorriebird

PS: Note to Flashmore...of COURSE I would not have your head on a platter for taking the coins, nay, I was surprised you left one of them for me as you knew where I was headed today! However, I did think it was pretty funny that Mr.(areyouREALLYgoingtogoworkChristmasCachewithoutme?) Flossmoor snuck out there and beat me to it after giving ME a tough time! BigSmile

PSS: I'll be glad to put a sheet in with the coin...
