Phase Three
I met with my food counselor for my one-year check up and it was decided that I have done a good job of sticking to my eating plan. I mentioned to her that I was concerned about feeling like I was on the verge of losing my hold on my eating however. I felt like I was slipping away since I had been lax on measuring my portions. My last weigh-in had been disappointing even though I have not gained any weight. I have maintained and not lost much, just three or four pounds over a three-month period.
We decided that I should continue seeing her for a while until we can get that feeling of slipping under control. The first thing she had me do was purchase a good food scale for the kitchen as well as some good measuring cups and spoons that break things down more. I now have cups and spoons that measure down to 1/8 cup and ¼ teaspoon.
These tools have helped me to get focused again on my daily intake for every meal. We have also come up with other useful ideas that help me keep track of my food consumption away from home. Since the main problem was the fact that I am more active and spending a lot more time away from home. That includes more meals on the go and that can make it hard to stay focused. I had a tendency to try and wait until I got home and then I would be starving. NOT GOOD!
I am now maintaining 126 grams of fat and 3,800 calories per day. I am also keeping better records of how much I eat from each of the six categories in the food pyramid. I am still paying attention to my sodium intake, but not being as restrictive. I still use salt substitute for cooking or adding additional flavor to foods. I still try to stay away from processed foods that have high sodium. But otherwise I have loosened some in this area, and this has opened the door for more variety in my eating plan. So I guess you can call this phase three. I will continue to try and update my food lists to give everyone a better idea of where I am at in this is phase. I have a bit slack time this winter, so I hope to catch up soon.
