Koh Samet Weekend Trip 29th -
30th April
Saturday I went back to Koh Samet Island. I booked the trip
from the hotel, the total cost was 1500 baht (£25, $40, 150zl or 300Rmb) I went with an
English couple called Nigel and Shelley who I got talking to in the bar on Thursday.
Unfortunately Shelley spent most of trip puking. Nigel got severely sunburnt on Saturday
and suffered the shivers on Saturday night. The good news is I was fine. The weather was
fantastic, lovely warm, clear water and not too many people about. It was absolute bliss.
On Saturday evening there was a thunderstorm on the horizon. Pretty spectacular, fork
lightning streaking across the sky and reflecting off the clouds. I tried to get a picture
of it. If you have ever tried to take a picture of lightning you will know that it's
impossible.

They transfer you from the boat to the beach in
a big tin bath with a car engine bolted on to the back of it. It holds about 30 people and
most have to stand. You paddle a couple of metres through the water and on to the beach. |
 |
This was my bungalow, number 406. No air
conditioning, just a fan. It was hot and sticky but I slept OK. There was a lot of animal
noises last night, particularly frogs, it reminded me of the Budweiser advert on the telly
at home. |
 |
Here's an inside view of my room, the word
"Pink" springs to mind. The only thing you can't see in the picture is the
bathroom but it didn't warrant a picture, just a bog, sink and shower. |
 |
The place I stayed was called the Malibu Garden
Resort. This is the view through the trees across the bay. I was sitting in the shade of
the trees having a beer when I took this. |
 |
The view across the beach, a bit of a repeat
because I put this type of picture on my web page after I first visited Koh Samet, but you
have to agree it's still nice. |
 |
This dog befriended me, I gave it a drink of
water and it sat by my feet all afternoon. When I was in Poland a group of us went out for
the night and went back to someone's house for a few more beers and something to eat. A
stray dog followed us inside and I fed it sausages and spoke to it for a bit (I don't
think it could understand English but it listened politely) Anyway, I fell asleep and a
bloke tried to wake me up. The dog started growling and had a go at him. It was protecting
the hand that fed him. |
 |
This is the entrance to the Malibu Garden
Resort. There is a restaurant and small shop. The price of the trip included a breakfast.
Two fried eggs, bacon, toast, jam, coffee, fruit juice and fresh fruit. Yum yum pigs bum!! |
 |
The Oasis bar. I had my tea there last night,
chicken fried rice. They play good music too: Oasis (surprise surprise) R.E.M. Sting etc
etc. I went back there this afternoon for a drink before I left to return to the hotel. |
 |
I took this from the Oasis bar, it sits at the
end of the beach on a rocky headland. I just sat and watched the boats coming and going. |
 |
I played beach football on Saturday. An
impromptu kickabout turned into a full game. I got injured though, I tried a slide tackle
(not a good idea on sand) and cut my leg, much like a grass burn, it stung like hell so I
went and sat with the dog and took this picture instead. We were winning 3-2 when I went
off. I don't know the final score as I had a snooze. |
 |
And finally here's me eating pork and rice at
the Pon Pon Seafood Restaurant. OK, I know pork isn't seafood but I assume they can swim
so that's good enough for me. The waitress took this for me, so she made sure she got the
restaurant name in for a bit of world wide web advertising. |
