Jesus of Nazareth is the most influential person in
the history of history! No other person in
all of human history comes close to the influence of Jesus. Jesus has influenced artists, poets, writers,
musicians, historians, archeaologists, scholars and theologians. From Christians who claim to love and follow
him, to other religious people who claim to hold him in high respect, to
atheists who claim that he was a wise teacher, there are very few people who
have not heard the name Jesus of Nazareth.
Yet, according to the Bible, all of that influence
is of naught if one does not confess him as Lord and believe in their hearts
that God raised him from the dead (cf. Romans 10:9). The Bible says that many people will come
before Jesus and say, “Lord, Lord, we cast out demons in your name and
performed many works in your name.”
Jesus will say to them, “Away from me, I do not know you.” Paul’s letter to the church in Colosse has
one goal in mind: To proclaim the
surpassing supremacy of Jesus Christ of Nazareth! In the final analysis, it doesn’t matter what
you know, or what you think you know,
about Jesus Christ. Jesus Christ is the King of kings and the Lord of
lords. He is supreme, and you can either
acknowledge his supremacy now willingly, or you will acknowledge his supremacy in the after-life.
The following excerpts are this author’s attempt to
hit the highlights of this book. They
are not intended to be full expositions of this text, but it is hoped that the
reader will be edified by them. I praise
Almighty God for the ability to present these articles, and it is my prayer
that He will use them to illuminate.
Amen!
