If you're already familiar with this "cyberbegging" thing and don't think very highly of it, fine. I happen to agree with you. However, panhandling is a part of today's society, and with the current US economy, it shouldn't be a surprise that a lot of people need help. Remember when Bush was elected, and the stock market plummeted almost instantly? 'nuf said.
I try to help out others whenever possible, and if I can help out other cyberbeggers who appear deserving, I plan to. Kinda hard to do it right now though.
Wanna flame me, or tell me what I coulda/shoulda/oughta do? G'head -- but FYI, I won't listen. No point in paying attention to someone being mean or obnoxious (duh), or listening to someone tell me something I already know.
Newsflash: I've heard about loans and borrowing from people and getting more jobs and working with creditors, blahblahblah. Trying to do something, and being able to do it successfully and without someone else causing you to fail, those are two totally different beasts. Besides, not everything is as instant as they sound; I'm currently awaiting word on several applications for several things.
Don't even bother with the "you control everything about your life" garbage, because sometimes crap just happens that's beyond our control. A former friend was recently laid off from his job. My first thought was, "What'd you do to get yourself laid off?" Why? Well, why not? It's a two-way street y'know, something which people like to ignore when they're in my shoes (which finally have soles on them, btw).
I'm not trying to sound like a whiner, so don't call me one. I'm not expecting to make much, if anything. This is simply one of many last-ditch efforts I'm making to try to not be homeless or a criminal. Yeah I sound bitter, damn right, when I see people like me trying to get a little bit of help, and just get griped about in blogs and forums and sites.
Trust me, many of the cyberbeggar sites don't impress me much either, or give me any reason or desire to help. I don't give a rat's backside if someone's charged too much Starbucks or Gucci on their credit cards.
I eat Ramen! It's cheap -- I happen to like it, and have always eaten it now and then -- but when it's the cheapest meal I can afford and has to last a whole day, well, I get a bit irked when I see someone else spending five bucks a day or more just for their low-carb lunch, then sneer down their nose at me and spout drivel about personal choices.
I know there's a lot I need to do....some things just have to wait. Until I'm back on my feet and not living on every cent I can hold onto long enough, that's just the way it'll be.
And as I've said before, whether you stay or not, donate or not, please at least click that button on the left for The Hunger Site. It's quick, easy, and free, and they can use all the clicks they can get.
