Our Studies: VOLCANOES!!

For the first month and a half this year, we have studies volcanoes. . It has been very exciting
We live in Washington state, so we have access to several volcanoes. We took field trips to Mt. Rainier, Mt. St. Helens and Crater Lake (as well as a side trip to the Redwoods in California). There are advantages to moving around in the military. For one, you have instant geography lessons with each move and new resources too.
We learned so much, got first hand accounts of people who lived here during the 1980 eruption of Mt. St. Helens. We built, erupted, painted and identified landscapes. It has been a great learning experience for all of us.

Volcano Party Ideas:
Invite friends and family to your volcano party (planned at the end of your studies). Set out drawings, paintings, experiments, etc. Each child will stand up and talk about what they learned (visuals may be included)
For the menu, here are some ideas to use:
Volcanoes (the main meal)
Vulcan juice (use red juice, tomato juice, or other favorite red drink)
or Earthquake
Mud pie
Volcano dessert can be an Angel food cake with red icing (for lava) and sprinkles on and around (tephra).
