Notes on RPing a Dark Elf
Remember, we are not playing in the Forgotten
Realms, nor any other world but Ultima. Drow on the surface of
Sosaria are different in some important ways from their
underground brethren. Surface drow, while sensitive to
light, are not debilitated by it. In addition, dark elves
who make their home on the surface are more likely to have contact
with humans and therefore often are more open minded about their
use (sometimes even to the point of friendship).
Skills:
All drow have some level of magic resistance. It is
suggested that you start with at least 50 points in that skill.
Furthermore, dark elves in general are sneaky, paranoid and apt at
using magic. Therefore, you might want to strongly consider
taking tracking, hiding and magery (at least enough to cast Recall
in a pinch!). There are though no absolute rules for
creating a dark elf character.
Equipment:
Appropriate dress would be follows. It should be expected by the
player that other types of clothing or weapons might beckon
comment from other dark elves as being "different."
You, of course, can dress and arm your character as you see fit.
Preferred armor: shadow chain mail, small shields (round or
buckler)
Preferred weapons (these weapons are the most drow-like, and thus
should be the only ones used by us):
light crossbow, dagger, kryss, (small) mace, maul, war mace (Yathrin),
short and long spear, war fork, katana, scimitar, long sword
(rarely)
Mounts:
Suggested mount: Ostard, as it comes the closest to the subterranean
lizards drow ride in the Underdark. Don't permanently attach
yourself to the back of the poor thing though.
