If we were up North it would be the beginning of the fall
season with the expectation that temperatures will cool,
leaves will change colors, and Indian summer may return for
a week. Here in Florida we all hope that at least the
temperatures will cool soon. The only way to change the
leaf colors is to paint them! So we change our outlook and
start to prepare for the holiday season and the end of the year anyway. In
anticipation of this, we start thinking of what we want to accomplish before
the end of the year. It is a time of “finishing.”
First of all let us ALL finish our President’s Challenge. Not only must the
stitching be done, but the “finishing” must also be done. I would like to see
all of these beautiful projects at the November meeting. I plan to take a
picture of EACH project in whatever stage it is in (so dress nice for your
picture). Be prepared again to talk about the final destination of this piece and
what you have learned NEW this year— either from your project or from all
the opportunities at our meetings.
Next, we should also be finishing our Hidden Hearts from NeedleArts
magazine. I hope you will also bring them to the November meeting (whether
finished or not) for a group picture.
Our GCC, “Mariposa,” has been sent off for the critique and should be back in
plenty of time to also be “finished” by November. Again, let’s bring them for
the photo op. Also some of you may be doing the Tulip bookmark using our
new skill working with pulled thread. Here is another November photo op, so
be ready to show this also.
And let’s finally finish those bracelets Mimi taught us, the folded ornaments
we each designed and Marty showed us the finishing, and July’s teacup
projects.
In September/October we are doing the Angel Wings. In October I will be
showing how to finish your angel. Hopefully we can have those also in time
for November’s photo op meeting even if not totally done.
So November is going to be “Show and Tell.” Even if you are not showing
or telling, please plan to stay for the fun of the discussion.
Start planning to attend our Holiday Party in December. The details are elsewhere in this issue. Remember to make an ornament to exchange. Every year when I decorate for the holidays, I remember who I received my exchange ornament from. It’s a wonderful feeling of friendship. There will be a Show & Tell table for those last minute gifts and projects, but we will not have time to discuss them.
Time flies when you’re having fun. I’ve had a lot of fun doing all these different things this year and I certainly hope you have been having fun, too! Let’s continue to have more fun and friendship at EGA through the fall season, whatever the color the leaves are at your house!
