Newsletter

Since Fritz lead the fraternity's newsletter, the Gamma Betan, in Fall 2003, I gained interest in the field of journalism. Well, actually, I thought that he could have made a better newsletter. Fritz's newsletter was definitely fun to read and appealed to his close friends. The newsletter is more than just fun reading: it is a medium that allows the producers of it to educate the readers about what is happening around them. It allows authors to tell their story to other people and it does so in a subsistent way. With this platform, I worked on the newsletter committee the following semester in Spring 2004 as editor with a staff consisting or Mike Lynch, Mike Huen, Ajay Sharma, Michelle Hale, Andrew Phan and Long Huynh. Together, we churned out 3 issues together.
Simultaneously, I worked with the Alumni committee and knew that they had their own separate newsletter. The Fall 2003 Alumni Newsletter was compiled entirely by Judith. It had articles written by the executive committee and a last page ad for the Scholarship fund (note: scholarship must be spelled correctly under any circumstance!). That newsletter was made exclusively for the alumni. The succeeding newsletter in Spring 2004 came from the brainchild of Richwood Borja. He had more articles and pictures. Notably, it had input from alumni and few articles on service projects. This was fairly close to the existing Gamma Betan because they shared components and sent a similar message. Working with both the newsletter and Alumni Committees, I felt the urge to merge the two publications, and thus I introduce to you the The Gamma Betan: Alumni Edition.

The Gamma Betan: Alumni Edition

This version of the newsletter will gracefully integrate aspects from both the Gamma Betan and the Alumni newsletters. The goal it to create the best newsletter ever. In order to do this, we, the Newsletter Committee will utilize resources from many branches of the club, which includes the Public Relations, Alumni Secretary, Secretary, Historian and alumni. This newsletter will appeal to both the active and alumni groups and will emphasize on the unity of the Alpha Phi Omega, Gamma Beta Chapter as a whole; past, present, and future. It will run articles from diverse viewpoints and have different ways of presenting its content. The main purpose of this newsletter is to advertise the Gamma Beta and its 65th Anniversary so that it would encourage alumni to attend our events on the 65th and beyond.
This is one-shot special will have the usual three sections: Leadership, Friendship, Service. It will also have an expanded Alumni section. Here is what preview for this issue:

I have old newsletters available for special orders:

Gamma Beta Alumni Newsletter- (Fall 2003) Judith's compilation of the executive committees' insights and info and a list of families.

Alumni Newsletter- (Spring 2004 Volume1 Issue 2) Brought to you by Richwood's Layout skills. There you can find alumni bios and service articles. The beginning has advice form the advisors.

The Great Bulliten- (September 28 2003 Volume 1, Issue 1 ) Fritz' first attempt at a newsletter was a nice try, but was loaded with errors. It has a lot of entertaining content such as "Os' Thoughts," "Relationship Help" and puzzles.

The Gamma Betan- (October 2003 Volume 1 Issue 2) Inside you can read about Regionals, "Pledges Perspectives," "Os' Thoughts," "Michelle Lozoda's Tribute to the College Experience," and "Ever Wonder How Our Families Came About?" This is in Adobe Acrobat pdf format.

The Gamma Betan- (December 2003 Volume 1 Issue 3) This issue came after the pledge class activation, so it has a lot of material about that. It has many pictures and an article that I wrote: "Why Did I Stay In Alpha Phi Omega?"

The Gamma Betan- (January 2004 Volume 2 Edition 1) This was the first Issue printed in Spring 2004. It has articles from all the Executive Committee (except for Cindy, where she got the front page the next issue). There are many articles on people's vacations, service projects and prose.

The Gamma Betan- (February 2004 Volume 2 Edition 2) Material on post-pinning can be found here. The only article on the GB Boy/Girl of the week is here and a letter from Kristopher Gainey, an alumni in the U.S. navy.

Torch and Trefoil- (Winter 2003) Alpha Phi Omega's national publication is short, elegant, and formal.

LFS- (Volume 2004 Issue 1) Stockton's Alpha Alpha Xi chapter produces this often. It is filled with detailed information on selected members, events, and shout outs.

InVision- (September 2003 Volume 2003 Issue 2) APO Section 4 put this together with articles from around Region 10, Section 4.There is a description of their website (you can find the link on the APO GB website) and articles from the Section 4 staff.

I am looking for The Gamma Betan March issue (Since I gave mine to Stanford's Zeta Chapter)  If you have that or any any other APO-related newsletter, then please contact me and we can arrange something together.

Memos

01.29.2005: I thank all people who have contributed to the newsletter, especially Long  who put it together and uploaded it online, Reed, Jen Lin, and Hope for making copies and distributing it.
09.27.2004:
It is good to have some articles in the works. I share my greatest gratitude to all who choose to write articles for the newsletter and to those who will later. I have another article done, "Ice Cream Social Report." You can read it when you have the time. If you want to edit my work, then please let me know.
09.12.2004:
I am requesting articles from all the members of the Executive Committee. I hope that someone could write an article on CPPC. I will talk to specific people to ask them if they could write articles (hint hint Ajay). A service article of mine about he Ice Cream Social is n the works and you will be the first to preview it next time.
08.01.2004: I just have one article completed for the newsletter, "The Greek Mafia," and it is subject to editing. But you can read it as a preview for the upcoming newsletter. I always value outside input, so please tell me what you think about it. You can join the staff if you want to get involved. By the way, if you are wondering why I chose November 1 and 5 for deadline and publication, it is because November 2 is presidential election and I want to avoid any conflict with that by getting it over with before the election begins. November 5 is my birthday and and one month and one day before the 65th Anniversary. The main goal of the newsletter regarding the alumni as to promote the 65th Anniversary so that they will be more motivated to come and attend. The 29-day period will give them adequate time to plan ahead and think about the event.
