MENTORS PAGE
It is a blessing for me to have people who I want to imitate. It would be a shame to not study the works and deeds of the great people who have shaped the society within which I live. So this site is dedicated to all those who serve as mentors to young people like myself:
Martin Luther King, Jr.- civil rights leader
While in high school, I got turned on to the symbolism of speeches by Martin Luther King, Jr. I then took it upon myself to read more of his works and discovered a bonding to this great man.
The following are various sites about Dr. King:-
Seattle Times - The Seattle Times does a remarkable job in chronicling the life of Dr. King from his birth on January 15th, 1929 to his death on April 4th, 1968 at the hands of James Earl Ray. Read and listen to some of Dr. King's words
Civil Rights Laws & Speeches - The National Park Service lists various laws and speeches surrounding Dr. King's life. Below are links to two of Dr. King's speeches:-
- I Have a Dream - This is the most famous speech delivered by Dr. King. It was delivered on August 28th 1963 on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial during the March on Washington.
- I've Been to the Mountaintop - This speech was Dr. King's final address and was delivered in Memphis on April 3rd, 1968 ... the day before he was assasinated.
Stanford's King Papers Project - "The King Papers project is a research effort to assemble and disseminate historical information concerning Dr. King and the social movements in which he participated. It's principal mission is to publish a definitive fourteen-volume edition of King's most significant correspondence, sermons, speeches, published writings, and unpublished manuscripts."
Coretta Scott King - This is a pdf document of the funeral program of Dr. King's wife who died on January 30th, 2006.
Maya Angelou - poet/writer/actress.
I've always loved poems because of their succint and preciseness. In high school, I studied various poems by Maya Angelou and realized that I could associate with
Phenomenal Woman and
Still, I Rise. For some reason, her poems spoke the words I couldn't verbalize.
Links to sites about Ms. Angelou:-

Mae C. Jemison - astronaut/physician.
My love for science, airplanes, and space led me to Mae Jemison. As the first African-American woman in space, her accomplishments inspired me when I hoped to become an aerospace engineer. In addition, she served as a peace corps in my homeland of Sierra Leone. I admire her greatly for the way she serves others.

Miscellaneous
I have had the unique opportunity of having my career and life guided by various individuals and groups:-
CMSE - The Center for Minorities in Science and Engineering went far and beyond the call of duty to help me in my college career. I strive to donate yearly to CMSE for its various scholarships that it awards to students.
Chris Jones - My 1995-96 NSBE big brother deserved his title as the 1996 U.S. Black Engineer of the Year's Student Leader. Even though, I have left the engineering field, I still hold dear the lessons he taught me. Most importantly that if I believe in myself I will be able to accomplish all my dreams.
DSP - Delta Sigma Pi (Coed Professional Business Fraternity) prides itself on a strong brotherhood. I definitely value the pledging process. The bonds I built are ones that I will cherish. And above all, I treasure those built with my 2000-01 big brother Lana Hailemariam (Nee Malone).
Peter Cramton - Once in awhile you come across a professor who actually captures your imagination and inspires you to go far and beyond to learn. Dr. Cramton did that for me with his undergraduate courses in Game Theory and Strategic Behavior.
SockTech International - SockTech is associated with my sister who is a practicing Pediatrician. She has guided me by providing me with a role-model in herself as she has accomplished her goal of becoming a pediatrician. Dr. Etta W. Boss-Cole currently does not have a home page so I decided to provide a link to SockTech. SockTech does Domain Registration, Web Hosting & Design, Computer Training and Medical Training.
