Numeracy Project

Hockey Stats update tool

Students will use information collected in the local paper (or a reliable internet source) to build a table in excel with information on 15 hockey players.

Required information for the table:
- goals, assists, points
- points per game
- games played
- plus/minus (if available)

The sheet needs to have the capability to enter in new data and update totals per player. You will need to enter in data over a period of at least 4 games, but the design of the sheet should be such that you could enter as many times as you like. Based on the games played, you will use scalar multiplication to project totals for the year. You will compare your points per game to previous years and calculate gains or losses in that category. You will also find the mean points per game for all your players. As an extra bonus, there will be a prize for the student who chooses the players with the highest average for the 4 game period.

There will be an Excel tutorial to go over some of the things you need to know. As well you will learn about Matrix addition, subtraction, and scalar multiplication. This will help you when you design your spreadsheet.
