AUGUSTA STOCK SHOW -- HANCOCK COUNTY FAIR
My name is Ken Bowles. I grew up on a farm between Augusta and Bowen, Illinois. My family was involved in the Augusta Stock Show held in July at the fairgrounds. My grandfather, Henry Gillespie, was a director and swine superintendent during the early days of the fair. My dad, Wilfred Bowles, was also a director and swine superintendent. My mom was my dad's bookkeeper during the fair. I helped out at the Secretary's Office. My dad and my grandfather had stock in the fair and were life members. My dad's credentials (above) allowed him free entry to the fair. Below is his a reproduction of his stock certificate in the Augusta Community Livestock Show Association.
