SETI Updates:
Kepler
Mission 2007
To search for
Extraterrestrial Intelligence we need to search
for extra-solar planets. Kepler mission is for
just that. If you know of the Venus transit of
2004, Kepler will search for the same phenomenon
occuring in deep space, the transit of
exoplanets on their stars. This will help us
search for and find, most probably,
civilizations across the vast darkness of space.

What is SETI@Home?
SETI@home is a
scientific experiment that uses
Internet-connected computers in the Search for
Extraterrestrial Intelligence (SETI). You can
participate by running a free program that
downloads and analyzes radio telescope data.
This program runs like a screensaver, that runs
when you are not actually using the computer.

Are we alone?
Aliens
might have already reached the earth from their
distant planet but hiding from human beings. The
story of Roswell can well be true and there can
exist some secret agency like in Will Smith's
blockbuster movie "Men In Black". Even
if it is not true, we might have been
continuously getting signals from Extra
Terrestrial Intelligence unnoticed and/or
overlooked. There are many large radio
telescopes around the world built for the same
purpose and many others employed part time to
Search for Extra Terrestrial Intelligence. Apart
from these radio telescopes many other special
optical telescopes have been built to search for
planets in other planetary systems hoping to
find another living planet. Science
fictions have always loved to include alien
invasions on earth and sometimes just 'contact'
with ETs. The movie "Contact" also has
the same thing -scientists receive signals from
ETs and analyze to find a code to build a
machine to travel time and space but still
unknown to everybody.
But
there is a real ET search in Berkeley in
California. SETI
Institute is doing all the work and
controlling radio telescopes around the world
for SETI. They have their own huge radio
telescopes like those at Arecibo, Puerto Rico
and Jodrell Bank.
We
are not receiving the messages but we have
already sent many. Many codes were made and sent
out as radio signals out to deep space hoping
someday it would reach intelligent ETs and receive
their reply. Only fast thing is the radio wave
traveling at the speed of light and is the only
language understood by our technology as we know
it. For more than 40 years people have been
listening to radio signals from deep space. Also
they have found many mysterious noises later
found to be nothing more than radio pulses from
Pulsars (stars that send out pulses of radio
waves).
We
are not alone. Universe is big enough to contain
a huge number of Earth-like planets. And one day
we will probably be able to contact them- the
Intelligent ,and hopefully friendly, aliens.
