Dispersion of the breed: 

Scarce, mainly toward to United States and the north of Europe starting from 1960. In the XIX century it was exported to Europe, mainly France.

Brief Historical Review: 

The Havanan Bichón is a Cuban dog, descending origin, in first term ‚ from Blanquito de La Havana, miniature breed that existed in Cuba among the XVII and XX centuries. the one which, in turn, it was originated from different canine breeds cared from Spain and France like Bichones and dogs of water. 

I. General aspect.

a) Group Description: The BH is a small and vigorous dog, of short paws and truncate lengthened whose body is completely covered with a long, silky and wavy hair of variables colours, although the most common is the white ivory. It always takes the line raised in feather form on the croup. It is a dog of awake, cheerful temperament, affectionate and mainly very intelligent brave. Their temperament influences in its behavior, because it takes the head and the proudly erect line. Their step is alive and elastic, as of spring. 

b) Raised to the cross: Of 20 to 30 cms, although the ideal height is 27 cms. 

c) Important Proportions: skull and muzzle keep a proportion of 4 / 3. The longitudinal diameter of the head is approximately half of the height to the cross. The distances between the cross and the elbow and the elbow and the tip of the foot are practically same, although the forearm is usually lightly but lengthened. The height to the cross and the longitudinal diameter of the body keeps a proportion of 3/4. 

II. Head.

a) Group Description: Relatively big, but proportional to the size of the body. Moderate Stop. Wide and smoothed skull whose long it is bigger than the long of the muzzle. 

The ears that are implanted to certain height, present a pleat that it raises them discreetly when the dog is in attention. 

Big, dark and almond-shaped eyes. Its truffle is dark and bevelled. 

Without chin. 

b) Skull: Wide and smoothed, almost square. Their traverse diameter coincides approximately with the long of the muzzle. Longitude: 8 cms. 

c) Depression naso - frontal: soft, moderate. 

d) facial Region: 

TRUFFLE:

Black or very dark, something wide (without being rough), big and bevelled, the line of the muzzle continues. 

FACE:

Carillos planes. Separate eyes between 3,5 and 4 cm. A hair curtain covers its eyes and it reaches the tip of the truffle. 

MUZZLE:

it is tuned discreetly in address to the truffle. It is more narrow than the skull. 

LIPS:

The superior covers to the inferior in an adherent way. Their borders pigmented and dark being should be well. 

JAW AND DENTURE:

Jaws articulated in scissor. The denture should be complete and the teeth should be white, strong and healthy. 

EYES:

Very expressive and relatively big, almond-shaped, dark, beautiful and with the borders of the lids well pigmented. 

EARS:

In wide base and triangular way, implanted above the line of the eyes and, although fallen, not framing the cheeks. 

They have a small pleat that it allows to the dog to raise them discreetly when it is in attention, so that the pleat is lightly above the cranial line. They are covered with long silky hair. Generally, their longitude coincides with the longitude of the skull and, tossed forward, its tips play the external corners of the eyes. 

III. Neck.
The neck is of long moderate, but never short, because it should separate the trunk of the head clearly. Their longitude is approximately a third of the long total of the body from the cross to the birth of the line. It should be very erect, so that the dog carries the head on high and with pride. 

IV. Trunk. 
a) General Aspect: Robust, cylindrical, with rounded ribs. Wide thorax and picked up stomach. Breastbone to the height of the elbow. Almost direct dorsal line, with slight elevation toward the lumbar region and finishing in a low croup. 

b) Back: Wide, arched ribs. 

c) Croup: The traverse diameter is of 4 cms. The croup is lightly low. 

d) Chest: Wide. Tip of the breastbone moderately marked. 

e) Stomach: Picked up. 

f) Loin: Of relatively long joining. 

V. Line. 

Insert rather high. The line is thick in the base and thin in the tip. It should be very erect taking above the loin so that their long hair open up in feather form, without playing the croup neither the back. The form of carrying the expressed line very clearly the alive temperament of this dog. Their longitude is 18 cms. 

VI. Previous members. 

a) General Aspect: Rectum and parallel seen of front, muscular and of strong bones. It distances similar between the floor and the elbow and the elbow and the cross. 

b) Shoulders: Muscular with scapulas orientate to the vertical position. 

c) Arms: Muscular, strong and inclined, forming with the scapula an angle bigger than 110 degrees. The arms are lightly shorter that the forearms. 

d) Forearms: Right, of strong bones. 

e) Metacarpuses: Lightly inclined. 

VII. Later members.

a) General Aspect: Potent and of strong bones. Of moderate angulaciones. 

b) Thighs: Strong, muscular. 

c) Legs: Seen from behind, they should be right. Of solid bones. 

d) Feet: Lightly oval. Something more lenghtened than the forward. They should not have supplementary fingers, although this doesn't disqualify. 

VII. Movement.

The BH has an alive and elastic step that it underlines and it expresses its cheerful, appeased character and a proud point. Their movement is free, with head and very erect line. 

VIII. Skin.

Stuck to the body, without wrinkles. 

IX. Coat.

The coat compound and abundant, of wavy coat that extends for the whole body. The hair of the BH is soft and silky. It is specially abundant in the head, where the hair of the ears, cheeks and that of the curtain, they unite to that of the neck and shoulders without demarcations. 

The hair of the BH never ends up being the sufficiently long thing as to play the floor and it is well that it is this way then the dog they should always be seen the feet. Another arrangement is not allowed that is not that of the feet pads and the anal and genital regions. 

X. Color.

The predominant colors of the BH are the ivory and the beige (champagne). 

XI. Height.

The height to the ideal cross is 27 cms, but it is tolerated up to 30 cms, whenever the dog is harmonic and not heavy. The minimum height is 23 cms. 

XII. Temperament.

The BH is alive dog, cheerful, curious, fearless and intelligent temperament. Very affectionate, especially with their owner, the BH it is also a playful dog, brave and satisfied of itself. 

XIII. Lacks.

All that you apart from him until here described. 

Some Disqualifications:

* Unilateral or bilateral Criptorquidism. 

* Despigmentation of the truffle, lips and borders of the lids. 

* Superior or inferior Prognathism. 

* Entropión and ectropión. 

NOTE: The males should have their two testicles very descended in the scrotum.
