Matchpoint Scoring
Matchpoint scoring is almost a whole new ball game, or often is, compared to IMP scoring. Briefly, the former scores on the basis of how many peers sitting your way you beat and how many tied. The latter scores on the basis of by how much you beat those other guys or they beat you. So an overtrick, particularly at a high level, won't affect your IMP's all that much. But in matchpoints, those overtricks, or the 10 points in no trump over a major, can show a huge and often surprising difference for 10 points here, 30 points there in raw score.
This page is dedicated to showing how those extra points have often resulted in hugh differences in matchpoints, not too rarely, for instance, showing a greater difference between an overtrick or lack of one in a six bid than between making 7 in a six bid and making a grand slam.
