For the most part, Nancy's Kentucky relatives called her "Nan" and her Nebraska ones called her "Nannie," which is on her tombstone. In March of 1913, Nan and John moved to Cortland, Nebraska; they eventually separated and John returned to Kentucky. In late January 1932, he tried to cross the Laurel River on a foot log and fell into the icy cold river, resulting in his death from pneumonia a few days later. Nannie remained in Gage County, Nebraska, for the rest of her life. In August 1954, Nannie married J.H. McPheron, who died in May 1956.
