    NOTES
    by Cuz Phil Hubbard
    The reverend
    George Madison "Matt" Cobb
    was a preacher who added an unusual twist to his sermons;
he would walk up to the pulpit, and, before speaking,
he would unholster a pair of .45 revolvers and
set them on the pulpit in plain sight of his parishoners.
The firearms would stay there until the services were completed.
Matt Cobb claimed that he did this
    to "keep order" in the church;
I have no clue as to whether this was meant seriously or not!

    NOTES
    by Cuz Phil Hubbard
    The house of
    Clayborn "Squire" Cobb
was reputed to be haunted, and his nephew, Lloyd "Speed" Cobb,
refused to sleep in one of the bedrooms, even as a grown man.
I don't know what Lloyd Cobb's beliefs about the supernatural were
-- he may have been terrified of ghosts, or he may have been
having some fun with an old legend by pretending to be wary
of the "haints." He died when I was seven, but from what I do
remember of him, well ... let's just say that the possibility
that he was kidding must be given *serious* consideration.
But, it's pretty clear that, for whatever reasons,
Squire Cobb's place indeed had much more than its share of
unexplained events, unidentifiable noises, and so on.

    ~Notes~
    by
    Cuz Glenn Earl Perry

    Troy and Esther (Taylor) Cobb
    bought the main farm of
    Claiborn "Clabe" Taylor
[at "the fork's of the road"
    on Big Richland Creek, Knox
    Co, KY] following Clabe's
    death in 1951. Clabe had
    bought the place in about
    the late 1920s, following
    the death of Cal Blanton,
    who acquired the place
    following the deaths of
    Wallis &Susan(Jones) Gilbert,
    who lived there after they
bought it in 1835. It was
    owned by James Hale before
    that. Troy and Esther Cobb
    built the ranch-style brick
house on the left side of
    the road [1803, near the
    old house, which was torn
down] as you go up the
    creek toward Laurel Co, KY.
