who married Rachel's sister, Mary Ann.

The following are listed, apparently in error, on an old census record
as Luther's and Rachel's children,

It has often been said in the family that especially since
Lute and Rachel never had any children of their own, they
bestowed an abundance of love on their nephews and nieces.
In turn, many a child considered Uncle Lute and Aunt Rachel
their all-time favorite uncle and aunt.

After the death of Rachel's sister, Eliza Jane, Rachel and
another sister, Liz (Sasser) Cobb, each had a hand in raising
Eliza's orphaned son, Robert Sasser. Liz accepted Robert as
though he were just one more of her many children. To Rachel,
Robert was almost like an "only son." Most called her Aunt Rachel,
but Robert always called her Aunt Kate (or Katie) and started
a few others calling her that from time to time. There are a
lot of mysteries concerning the death of Robert's mother,
