Age: 18
Residence: Sleepy Fareham, Sleepy Hampshire, England and Empuriabrava, Spain
Interests other than Tennis:
Music mainly. I’m a musician; I play the guitar and sing- badly! I write my own material but don’t ask me to play it unless I’m really drunk, and even then it’s not a good idea! I love motorbikes and own 2 (well one and a half!), and I drive the coolest car in the world. She’s a 1977 Beetle Convertible called Daisy and I love her very much.
On a personal note:
Magüi is such a sweet girl you just can’t help but love her! From the first time you see her walk out on court and see that instantly loveable smile you become attached and there’s something wrong with you if you don’t want her to win.
One of the highlights of Wimbledon for me this year was when Magüi looked over to us and shrugged after losing match point to Jelena Dokic and then came over with towels for Beatriz and I and thanked us for cheering.
It was actually me who came up with the name “Magüi Mania” with a little help from John Barret and my good friend Jana Novotna – who’s not evil! (Private Joke) After the cameras found us in the crowd (which, let’s face it, wasn’t a real challenge) during Magüi’s match against Mary Pierce the commentators dubbed us “Serna Mania” but I said that “Magüi Mania” sounded much better…and so – we were born!
