Escape to Romance Reviews:
"Roy develops her characters so well that the reader wants to hate Eliah for his
duplicity, but can't help feeling sorry for him instead.
Eliah is so bitter, but helpless. He ends up seriously hurt during one of his
"stop Sean escapades" and Lia and Sean must overcome their anger to solve the
land development dilemma. But, will a trunk full of secrets
bring them the resolution both of them want, but fight against? Or,
can one never truly go back to the past?
The most important part of the novel is when Sean and Lia see each other for the
first time again after so many years. Despite, dirt, sweat,
and wrinkles each see in each other the people they once were. The
people both wish to be again.
Roy's talent lies not only in the development of her main story line but in the
realistic tales of those who come into contact with Sean and Lia. These
other characters bounce off Lia and Sean to make the novel completely
realistic. One can't help but walk alongside the main
characters and wonder what will happen next."

Amazing Authors Showcase:
"A wonderful romance that spans decades. Ms. Roy has broken
the mold of the same old same old in romantic fiction to bring us a
down-to-earth hero and heroine.
Thirty years ago Sean McIntyre broke Lia Stewart's heart when he didn't show up
for their scheduled elopement.
She'd left the meeting place hurt and dejected, believing
Sean had let her down in love. She left Split Maple Ridge
with no intentions of returning.
Sean had dropped out of Harvard Law and enlisted in the service and became a
Medevac helicopter pilot during the Vietnam Conflict. Now he
owns McIntyre Construction where he hires Vietnam Vets to work for him. A
job lands him in Split Maple Ridge, Vermont to develop some land for a condo
building project. Lia's father, Eliah Stewart, plans on
stopping the development even if it means shooting at the workers from a tree. He
believes Native American artifacts will be destroyed if the project continues.
Lia rushes to Vermont to mount a archeological rescue dig to pacify her
cantankerous old father and keep him out of jail. She hadn't
planned on staying long, but Eliah breaks a leg and Sean offers them a place to
stay until he's recovered.
Lia and Sean are still drawn to each other. Thirty years
couldn't erase those old feeling, but both carry secrets about the night of
their foiled elopement that needs to be out in the open before they can start
anew.
Can love survive over time and distance, secrets and lies? A
SOLDIER'S FORTUNE
makes you believe love really can conquer all."

Romance Reviews Today:
"A poignant story of rekindled love and trust, A SOLDIER'S FORTUNE is the
tale of two people who never thought to see each other again, but who were
never meant to be apart. Although I'm too young to know the
trauma caused by the Vietnam War and how it affected the men who were there,
Ms. Roy does a wonderful job of portraying Sean's feelings without being overly
dramatic. Lia is an intriguing mix of the young woman she
used to be and the mature woman she has become. This is a
very intense story, but the character of Eliah adds touches of humor that
lighten scenes throughout the book."
For a tale that is sure to tug at your heart, don't miss A SOLDIER'S FORTUNE.

Treble Heart Books
"With ever aging baby boomers filling the bookstores after retirement, it was
only a matter of time before romance novels started to reflect a new a more
mature hero and heroine. A SOLDIER'S FORTUNE contains
a hero and heroine in their 40s, making this one of the few that appeal to that
generation.
While the Vietnam war raged and protests and riots pock marked the nation, Lia
Stewart and Sean McIntyre have a summer fling. Lia and Sean feel so much in
love that they agree to elope, but when Sean never shows Lia is devastated.
Years later, with a successful career, beautiful son across the country and her
husband buried, Lia Martin (formerly Stewart) returns home to Spilt Maple
Ridge, Vermont. Her father Eliah Stewart is fighting developers from building
on his mountain, Eliah believes that there are Native American artifacts that
are buried on the mountain and he is determined to find them.
Since Lia is trained as an archaeologist, Eliah wants her help in discovering
where the artifacts are buried and in stopping the developers. Lia arrives she
finds her father up a tree with a shotgun and Sean McIntyre down the road on
the side of the developers. Why was Sean there? Why was he in the construction
business at all? What happened to his plans to attend Harvard and become a
lawyer? Was he here just to antagonize her father? Lia wants nothing more than
to flee and leave all this behind, but when her father has an accident, Lia is
forced to stay and confront past and present issues.
Sean McIntyre ended up serving in Vietnam instead of going to Harvard as
planned. It seems that in Sean's life nothing has gone according to plan, now
he has to face Eliah Stewart over a shotgun barrel in order to stay out of the
poor house. If Sean can't convince Eliah to leave them alone, his backers will
find another project to put their money; Lia showing up with a request to let
her and her father dig for artifacts, is another delay that he hadn't planned
on and legally speaking Sean just may have to comply. Lia' s showing up may be
unplanned, but it's something that Sean could happily turn to his advantage.
This is a bitter sweet tale that reminds me of Janet Evanovich's Stephanie Plum
series in some ways, instead of Grandma Mazur there is Eliah Stewart. The humor
in the story helped to balance the seriousness that penetrated whenever the
Vietnam aspect was brought to the fore. Marie A. Roy has written a story
showing how love can come at any age. I see future romance novels with older
hero heroines and I must say if they are all as good as A SOLDIER'S FORTUNE
they'll be enjoyed by readers of every age."
