SYNOPSIS CHECKLIST

It is a good thing to go through a checklist to see if your synopsis contains essential elements to help an editor/agent fully understand your story.

  • Give a description of the beginning, middle and end to ensure your story even has these.
  • Give an in depth characterization of each main character.
  • Give the external and internal conflicts and how they are resolved.
  • Give story set-up.
  • Give a description of theme (what structure, plot, character revolve around) and show the theme has been carried throughout the story line.
  • Give goals of each main character.
  • Give motivation of each main character.
  • Give plot points. i.e. what happens next.
  • Give a brief description of each chapter (outline) in one or two sentences.
  • Give a description of the 'black' moment,' and show what happens.
