Episode Title: The Great Divide Original Airdate: 200505 Production #: 111 Summary: Aang-tachi come to a rocky canyon full of disagreements (at least for Sokka and Katara). Aang tells them to solve out their problems with actions not, not worlds. This comes in handy when two rivaling tribes, the Xang and the Ganjin come to fighting terms. Both agree on Aang's terms of cojoined walking and Appa carrying sick and elderly people. They are guided by an elderly yet rugged Earth Nation canyon guide. The journey starts out exciting yet subtle, with a whole lot of Earthbending. Suddenly, the group is attacked by giant lizardous spiders (a Caynon Crawler). They injure the guide, who is unable to continue. Each tribe blames the other, naturally. The tribes split up, as Katara and Sokka, and learn each tribe is just different... or? The Ganjin tell Katara the same thing the Xang tell Sokka: an old fable of mistrust and misguidance that, in the end, wasn't really true. Aang confronts the two groups and restates his philosophy, and they listen-then battle! Aang stops them, and finds out that they've both been smuggling food. The Canyon Crawlers come back, unfortunately, and much to teh guide's dismay. Katara and Sokka give up their menial accusations, and fight, alongside both tribes and Aang. They eventually ride the Crawlers up the canyon wall to the other side. Each tribe still accuses each other, but Aang retells the story-and it's much more farfetch'd and not as severe (which is a lie-oh well?). The tribes befriend, and thank Aang for his duties, followed by a long walk to Baa-Seng Se. Notes: • This episode marks the first time credits were shown.
