Many years passed. Hyrule was at war. The Gorons fought the Zoras. The Hylians attacked the Gerudo. The Sheikah started to fade away. Out of this war, a woman and her newborn child tried to escape. She stumbled into the forest where the Great Deku Tree lived, protecting the Kokiri from the ravages of the war. Unfortunately, the woman's wounds were too great, and she died while begging the Deku Tree to care for her son. He agreed, sensing that he was a boy of destiny, and the child grew up as a Kokiri. Meanwhile, the prince of Hyrule, who also had a newborn child, a daughter, fought hard and finally made peace with the other races. He soon became king of the Hyrule. Peace returned to the lands, and the races retreated to their own lands to recuperate. When the child in the Kokiri forest and the princess were nine years old, trouble started. Ganondorf, the rare male Gerudo and king, had learned of the legend of the Triforce and desired to obtain it. He tried to blackmail the three races out of their spiritual stones. He put a deadly curse on the Deku Tree, sealed up Dodongo's cavern and reintroduced the dinosaur-like dodongos to that cave which supplied most of the Goron's food, and poisoned the Zora's god, Lord Jabu-Jabu. He then went to the royal castle to make an alliance with the king. Of course, what he was really after was the Ocarina of Time. The only one who realized this was the princess, Zelda. She had a dream in which dark clouds hung over the lands. A light shone forth from the forest, where a boy stood holding a green stone and a fairy following him. She felt that Ganondorf was the dark clouds and the boy would stop him. The boy, named Link, also had terrible dreams. He was in front of a castle when a horse bolted out, carrying a powerful woman and a little girl. The girl threw something, and then an evil form appeared. He was deeply troubled. Link was called to the Great Deku Tree, and was asked to break the curse on him. Link did, but it was too late, and the Tree died. But before he did, he gave Link the spiritual stone and told him to find Zelda. This he also accomplished, and Zelda knew him to be the boy from her dreams. She pointed out Ganondorf to him through a small window, and he went to look. Ganondorf saw him and memorized his face. Link drew back, but Zelda was not worried. She asked him to obtain the other two stones. Of course Link obeyed. Helping him in his quest was a wise owl, rumored to be the Kreapora Grebora of old. After much trouble he succeeded in opening up Dodongo's cave and destroyed King Dodongo. Big Brother Darunia, the king of the Gorons, was so grateful that he made Link his blood brother and gave him the spiritual stone of power. Ganondorf noted this with distaste. Then Link found the Zoras. Lord Jabu Jabu had accidentally swallowed the young Princess Ruto along with her spiritual stone. Link allowed Jabu Jabu to swallow him as well, and found Ruto and her stone. After ridding Jabu Jabu of the evil electric organisms in him, they escaped. Only by agreeing to marry Ruto could Link obtain the last stone. Too young to understand completely, he agreed, and she gave him the stone. Link had accomplished the task. Meanwhile, Ganondorf changed his plans. The kid had the three spiritual stones, and the princess would presumably give him the ocarina. Thus, Ganondorf merely had to get rid of the princess and follow the kid into the Sacred Realm. He attacked the castle in a surprise attack, just as Link was running up to the castle. Zelda, afraid that he would get the Ocarina, grabbed it. She and her nursemaid, Impa, escaped on horse. As they left the castle, she saw Link standing there. She threw the Ocarina to him, and it landed in the moat. Ganondorf, who was chasing her, stopped and questioned Link as to where they went. Link, realizing that his dream was playing out in front of him, drew his sword to confront the evil king. But Ganondorf merely laughed and knocked the kid down with a magic blast. He then rode off, leaving Link alone to decide what to do next. He recovered the Ocarina and received a telepathic message from her, telling him that she trusted him to keep it safe. She told him the notes of the Song of Time, and told him where to play it. He entered the castle town and found the Temple of Time. After placing the stones on the pedestal, he played the magical notes. The Triforce symbol above the door burst into a brilliant yellow, and the Door of Time open. Navi, his fairy friend, flew in and found the Master Sword. Link cautiously approached the dais which held the Sword, stepped up, took a deep breath, and pulled. The Sword came loose and rose as he clutched it in his little hands. A blue light emerged and soon Link was caught inside it. The seal had been broken. An evil laugh broke Link out of his awe-filled daze. He turned around, and saw Ganondorf through the blue light. He said something about how Link led him to the Triforce and how he knew that Zelda would trust this little kid. It was then that Link blacked out and disappeared into the Sacred Realm. Ganondorf followed him into the blue light and he too entered the next world, along with a few of the followers. And there, in its golden glory, was the Triforce. A mad dash erupted when all of the greedy Gerudo thieves tried to grab it. Yet Ganondorf fought them all off, killing his menions, and soon was the only one left. With blood stained hands, he grasped the Triforce. A voice appeared in his head. "If thou hast a wish, ask for it." Ganondorf became the first person since the ancient king to use the Triforce. But all was not lost. To his surprise, the Triforce split, and only the Triforce of Power stayed with him. For only one who has all three virtues in balance can control the whole Triforce. The remaining pieces were lost to him, and he searched in vain for them. The once golden land of the Sacred Realm became a dark world of Ganondorf's rule. Using his power, he drew evil people into the Sacred Realm. Their appearance became a reflection of what was in their hearts, and they became hideous monsters. Soon they reattacked Hyrule. The knights fell to his power, and the castle was ruined. In its place Ganondorf erected a huge floating tower which became his headquarters. [When the Zoras attempted to rebel against his rule, Ganondorf killed their god, Jabu Jabu,] imprisoned the king Zora, and froze the Zora's Domain. The Zoras were alive but trapped under the ice. A boy appeared, named Sheik, and managed to free Princess Ruto. Meanwhile, the forest was being overrun by monsters, for without the Deku Tree's protection, the Kokiri were helpless. Ganondorf was getting angry with the countless rebellions against his rule, and so decided to make an example of the Gorons. He revived the ancient dragon Volvagia, and imprisoned the Gorons deep inside Death Mountain Crater. He planned to feed them to Volvagia one by one. Darunia went to the crater, trying to find the legendary Megaton Hammer. Only this weapon could defeat the monster. It was in this environment that Link awoke. He found himself in the Sacred Realm, in the Chamber of Sages inside the Temple of Light. By this time, the first sage, the sage of light, had awakened, and was with the young hero when he awoke. He explained to him all that happened in the last seven years, and pleaded with the boy to destroy Ganon. The sage, named Rauru, then sent him back to Hyrule, where he found himself standing inside the Temple of Time, holding the Master Sword. As he was leaving, he heard a sound behind him. He turned, and found a young boy standing where he had just left. It was Sheik, and he told Link that the other Sages were ready to be awakened. Yet they were all trapped, each within a different temple, and needed help to escape Ganondorf's henchmen. Sheik told Link where each of the sages could be found, and Link left, determined to do what he could. In the Kokiri forest and Lost Woods, Link found the forest temple. After defeating a phantom representation of Ganondorf, he learned that Ganondorf himself was watching him and remembered him. But the next sage was free and was awakened, and Link was surprised to see that it was his childhood friend, Saria. Also surprising was that a small sapling started to grow after he rescued her. It was the Deku sprout, the new Deku Tree. The new tree was able to keep all of the monsters out of the forest and guard the Kokiri once again. Link then left to Death mountain. Receiving information from Darunia's son, Link of the Gorons, Link made his way to the fire temple deep within Death Mountain. Darunia was there, and he asked Link to free the Gorons while he dealt with Volvagia. Link agreed and did so, finding the legendary Megaton Hammer along the way. He used this weapon to defeat the fire breathing dragon and awakening the third sage. It was Darunia, the Big Brother of the Gorons. He, along with Saria and Rauru, stayed in the chamber of sages awaiting the time when Link would need their help. The hero of time went to the Zoras domain and rescued King Zora. He helped Link as best as he could and gave him a tunic for breathing underwater. Sheik appeared and was more helpful, telling him that Ruto was captured trying to break the curse on Lake Hylia. Although not anxious to see his haughty fiancee again, Link left for Lake Hylia and the water temple. He broke the curse and destroyed the guardian. To his surprise Ruto awakened as the water sage when that happened. Lake Hylia, almost dried up at that point, started to return to its former glory. With that, Link left for Kakariko village. It was storming by the time he got there. A house was on fire, and no one was to be seen. Except one. Sheik was standing by the well. Link ran up to him, but suddenly the top of the well flew off. A strange being, a spirit of some type, esca[ed, knocking the two unconscious. When they came to, Sheik told Link of the Shadow Temple. Impa had gone there to try to seal off the spirits there like she had with the one in the well, but she needed help. Link found his way through the old temple and when he met the spirit the second time, it was Link who was the victor. Impa awakened then as the fifth sage. With that, Link went to the desert. He defeated two witch sisters, and awakened another sage. It was Nabooru, the rebel Gerudo who would not accept Ganondorf's rule. Link was then transported to the chamber of sages, where he once again met Rauru. He told the hero that someone was waiting for him in the Temple of Time. After that meeting, Link would be ready to face Ganondorf and become the hero of time. Someone was waiting for Link at the Temple of Time. It was Sheik, the mysterious boy who had been aiding Link throughout his quest. He told Link another chapter of the legend of the Triforce, the fact that it would split if the person who touched it did not have the three qualities in balance. Ganondorf held the Triforce of Power. It was then that Sheik revealed that Link himself held the Triforce of Courage. Then Sheik held up his hand, and the Triforce symbol appeared. A bright light shone out, and when it dimmed, Zelda herself was standing there. She had disguised herself, calling herself Sheik, and waiting for Link to return. She held the Triforce of Wisdom. After she explained all of this to him, she gave him a magical spell. It would enhance an arrow, making it possible to hurt even Ganondorf. Armed with the Master Sword and his new found light arrows, as they were called, Link felt ready. Yet a rumbling started inside the Temple of Time. Ganondorf's voice suddenly came from out of nowhere, and Zelda became trapped in a crystal. Ganondorf revealed that he had allowed Link to get this far in his quest because he knew Zelda would reveal himself to him. Zelda disappeared, trapped inside Ganondorf's castle. Ganondorf challenged Link to rescue her, and then he too left. Link had no choice. With the help of the remaining six sages, he entered Ganondorf's castle and fought his way to the top. Ganondorf was there, playing an organ, with Zelda suspended above him. The Triforce pieces started to resonate, as they were coming together. Ganondorf thought that he could defeat Link easily and capture the remaining two Triforce pieces. In the great battle that followed, Link managed to defeat the evil Gerudo. Wielding the mighty Master Sword to reflect Ganondorf's evil powers and then using the magic of the light arrows, Ganondorf soon fell. The crystal that trapped Zelda dissipated, and she came to Link. Yet all was not over. The castle started to crumble, as Ganondorf used the last remains of his power to try to destroy the two. Link and Zelda barely escaped, and the castle collapsed. But during the collapse, with his final breath, Ganondorf made his final wish. The power of the Triforce fully encompassed him, making his appearance reflect what was in his heart. His weak Gerudo body transformed into a menacing, gigantic, and powerful beast. He was no longer Ganondorf the king of thieves. He became known only as Ganon. There seemed to be no way of stopping Ganon. Link fought hard, but Ganon merely flung the Master Sword out of his hands and then blocked it off with a ring of fire. Yet the Hero of Time would not give up. He wore Ganon down until he could no longer maintain the ring of fire, and Link retrieved the Sword of Evil's Bane. The momentum of the battle had changed, and Ganon's downfall was certain. When he was weak enough, the seven sages used their combined power to seal the evil beast in the Sacred Realm. Link then returned the Master Sword into the Temple of Time, sealing off the Sacred Realm, presumably forever. The Ocarina of Time was returned to the royal family, and the remains of Ganondorf's army retreated into the wilderness. Peace had returned. The Imprisoning War, as it became known, was over. [ Under some of the greatest leaders the world had ever known, the six races worked together to rebuild the land of Hyrule. Zelda rebuilt Hyrule Castle to the east of Kakariko village, among the help of the other races. The old castle town fell into ruin, and a forest grew where it had once proudly stood. Only the Temple of Time remained, until finally its walls crumbled to dust as well. The only remains of the old town was a clearing where the Temple once stood, and of course the pedestal containing the Master Sword. Yet the rest of Hyrule soon forgot about it in the short golden age that followed Ganon's downfall. Link married Malon and became a knight in service of the new Queen Zelda. The sages became heroes, and a vast migration across the land occurred. Many of the towns that sprang up took on the names of the sages in honor of their courage and wisdom. The sages themselves took to maintaining the seal on the Sacred Realm. All seemed well.] |
