Threadheads Small Quilt Group

We meet once a week at Fabric Depot in Portland Oregon for shopping, quilting, and conversation. We usually have between seven and fourteen attendees.   It's hard to tell from week to week whether we do more shopping, quilting or conversing but we always have a good time.  Most Threadheads are also members of Northwest Quilters guild in Portland.  As a group we often donate quilts and quilt tops to charities through NW Quilters.   Our fearless leader is Arden.  Our historian is Cathy so it is with her help that I can put the following pictures on this page.  Our meeting and event calendar is also on the web.

Charity Quilts Information on upcoming Charity Quilt Event night (Sept 23 '98)
th_char1.jpg (5978 bytes) Don't all quilters have 'orphan' blocks.... blocks that for some reason never made it into a quilt top?  Threadhead decided to make good use of these blocks.  We pooled our orphan blocks then divided them into color groups.   A couple of members then put the blocks together into quilt tops that were donated to NW Quilters to give to one of the many charities that it supports.
th_char2.jpg (7466 bytes) I'm the shy one.  Sue A. isn't so shy.
th_char3.jpg (6257 bytes) Barb organized our work on another charity quilt top.   We each purchased fat quarters of a fabric that she selected then we each made rows of blocks using the focus fabric and others from our private stashes.  Barb put all together and this was the result.  Is that Kadie and Sue F. holding the quilt?
th_char4.jpg (6060 bytes) I organized this charity project.  I challenged each individual to bring at least one truly ugly fat quarter to one of our meetings.    We exchanged the FQs then challenged ourselves to make a specific block from the ugly fabrics.  I divided the blocks into color groups and put them together into two tops to donate to charity.  We recently had another ugly FQ exchange and will soon be putting them to work in another charity top.
Members' Quilts
th_sue1.JPG (5793 bytes) We could almost label this Sue A.'s quilt page.   She seems to be the most prolific producer of the group.  And she does nice work!  Sue hand-dyed all the fabric that went into this quilt.  This picture doesn't do it justice.
th_cath1.jpg (14798 bytes) Last year almost every Threadhead participated in the NW Quilters sponsored mystery quilt.  Cathy even finished hers and entered it in the NW Quilters annual quilt show last March.  Too bad we don't have a picture of the back of the quilt as it is a two sided quilt.  Cathy's quilt was the only quilt in the show that got double exposure....front and back.
FUN
th_fun1.jpg (9686 bytes) Sometimes we actually do work.  Here we are working on our projects last summer.  I see Marti, Barb, Sue F.  here.  Can't make out the other Threadheads.
th_fun2.jpg (4991 bytes) This was taken during our beach trip. Cathy is working but I don't know what Barb and Susan are doing...  mugging for the camera I guess.

We usually have a lot of good food at our meetings.  Recipes for Creeping Crust Apple Cobbler, Oregon Wild Blackberry Cobbler, and No-Cook Oriental Salad are available here.
