Pansy

pansy six-packs

Pansies are tough guys. In Oklahoma, you can plant them in October and have a reasonable chance that they will bloom all fall, go dormant through the coldest weeks of winter and still survive to bloom again once spring returns. Their tender looking leaves can withstand a couple of inches of snow.
They may even continue to prosper until hot June weather causes them to wither. So pansies are really the coolest of annuals with their unusual growing season.
Pansies are slow to grow from seeds so the plants are usually bought in six packs.  You need a good grouping of them since they are only six inches tall and have three inch blooms.
They come in many bright colors.  Often the center of the flower has a different complimentary color.

                            Scientific Name: Viola
