An open letter to:
Mr George W Bush, The President of the United States of America
&
Mr Tony Blair, The Prime Minister of Great Britain
Dear President Bush and Prime Minister Tony Blair,
The Kurdish people have always considered the American and British peoples as friends yet both of your countries have in the past let the Kurdish people down by sacrificing them to their broader interests. This time the Kurdish people in Iraqi Kurdistan have risked everything to offer you not only their friendship but full support and cooperation in your endeavor to rid Iraq of Saddam Hussein. Should any harm come to the Kurdish people and the Kurdish status quo in Iraqi Kurdistan you will be accounted by the Kurds of today and tomorrow as responsible. Inside Kurdistan and abroad the Kurds are your supporters and friends. Please do not let them down. This time you have given your words to the Kurdish leaders and have publicly stated that the Kurds will enjoy freedom and democracy in a democratic federal new Iraq.
The Turkish state since its establishment in 1926 has committed horrific atrocities against the Kurdish people in Turkey, including forced assimilation, displacement and denial of identity. Until today a Kurdish children are forbidden to write in their mother tongue a sentence such as I LOVE YOU MUM. The real governing regime in Turkey is one behind the curtain that has the same policy regarding the Kurdish people regardless of what party is governing in Ankara. It is a regime that has based its policy on the Kurds on deception and lies.
As the atrocities committed against millions of Kurds in Turkey were not enough the Turkish state wants to use the war against Saddam Husseins regime for its own agenda. It is trying every trick and lie to justify this action. Both the Democratic Party of Kurdistan and the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan have been trying for years to convince Turkey they have no plans to declare an independent Kurdish state. How could they when Iraqi Kurdistan is surrounded by Iran, Iraq, Syria and Turkey? The Turkish state knows this very well, however, it uses this and other claims for a hidden agenda with the aim to deprive the Kurds in Iraqi Kurdistan of everything they achieved as a result of tens of years of struggle against the Iraqi successive regimes.
We trust you. Please do not betray us again. No to Turkish incursion into Iraqi Kurdistan. The Kurdish people in Iraqi Kurdistan would rather remain under Saddam Husseins dictatorship and oppression than being plagued by the Turkish army and the deceiving dishonest politics of the Turkish state. We implore you not to trust the Turkish state. We hope you will not let the Kurds down this time.
Please accept our sincere wishes and gratitude.
