Cafe Evergreen (4)
By The 8th Continent

'Irene, are you free this Saturday?'
'Why Glen, what's up?'
'My friends invited us to a potluck'
'Sounds great. Okay, I'll make something for that'
'So I'll come here at your flat and pick you up on Saturday at 11am'

On Saturday morning, Glen took Irene to Cafe Evergreen.
'How many people are coming?'
'You can guess'

When she opened the door, the two of them were greeted with a storm of cheering and clapping.
'What's this?' Irene was perplexed.
'It should be nice' Glen just smiled.

'Hi Irene! How are you today, my sweet'
It was Irene's parents who came up to her.
They hugged her one after another.
'Mom! Dad! How come you're here? I thought it was a potluck with our friends...'

'Hello, Irene...guess what?'
Out of the dark, a young woman came to the door with something white.
It was Claire, Glen's elder sister.

'Wow, Claire, it's you! Haven't seen you for so longcwhat's up?'
'Ta-da! This is the one I made for you'
'Oh no...is this...wedding dress, isn't it? What a surprise all of you gave me!'

'Irene' Glen gently said to her. 'Let's have a wedding party here'
'Oh my...Glen...'

'Irene, I know you've been worrying that we have different religions and other backgrounds that might hamper our marriage.
But look at the people here for us!
They're all in favour of us getting married!
No worries Irene, nothing can stop us from tying the knot.

'I would like to respect your culture, your tradition, your beliefs and everything that has shaped you, rather than square-toed rituals.
So I decided to throw a casual wedding party just among our families and close friends to celebrate!'

Irene choked up in delighted amazement.

Irene was taken to the rear of the cafe by Claire, and came back to the lounge in the pure white dress Claire had made.
'Irene' Glen said with a bashful smile. 'You're beautiful'

He put a tiara in her hair, and slipped an emerald ring on her wedding finger.
'Now, shall we begin the party?' Glen called aloud.
The sound of a champagne cork popping was heard everywhere.
