My Bio

I'm a twenty something single guy who has been making up songs ever since I was in my teens, but it is only over the past year that I have learned how to play guitar. Now I can create my songs with the help of my guitar which means that I can play the music that accompanies them. Learning the notes and chords on the guitar means that I can now hear a note and know where to play it on the guitar, after a couple of tries anyway! This is a big help in writing music as it means that if i don't have a recording device to hand I can scribble down a rough guide as to how it should sound. You know something like C, G, F, C for the verse, G, F, G, F for the chorus and so on. I can scribble down something about the speed and style. It is usually enough for me to remember the song at a later time.

And that is why I have this site, it is for me to show off my songs. I've created this site during January 2001. I've only been playing the guitar since April of 2000 (10 months at present) so I'm not going to sound limke a virtuoso but I should be good enough for me to convey my songs to you. If I am not good enough then let me know where I am going wrong, I always appreciate constructive criticism.

My songs tend to be based around the music I like which is acoustic basde rock and pop. If I could've written any famous song that you might have heard of then it would be something by Bruce Springsteen or The Eagles, something like I'm On Fire or Lying Eyes. At least that is what I aspire to. There are times that I record on my electric guitar and then I write to suit that instrument. It's rocky and rough. More like Oasis crossed with AC/DC and Bryan Adams as the glue holding it all together. At least in my dreams that is what my music is like.

Over the course of the past year I've been learning as much as I can about producing my own music by myself. To help me with this I have bought a couple of software packages which allow me to record CD quality music on my PC. To get the sound into the PC in the first place I have also bought a microphone and a mixer.

The mixer is really useful as it allows me to plug in my guitars, drum machine and the microphone so I can do "live" recordings of everything at once or I can record each part seperately. Just like a live show the mixer allows you to adjust the volume and positioning of the sound of the instruments. If I want I can have the mic as stereo, rhythm guitar as left speaker bias, lead guitar as right speaker bias and drums in stereo. That way it sounds more like a band on stage with the singer in the middle at the front, the drummer at the rear and a guitarist to each side.

I'd recommend learning to play an instrument to anyone. I did try to learn the violin when I was in school at about 9 years old. It was boring so I left it, they were teaching us classical stuff. What kid wants to learn classical music? Pick a simple slow song that you like which is based on these chords C, G, C and Em. The Em means "E" minor. A minor chord sounds a little bit sadder/sharper than a regular chord. Technical people will you it is a semi-tone lower or something like that.

The guitar is one of those instruments that you can play a song on even when you are not that good at it. Just learning 3 or 4 chords is enough to be able to play over 4,000 recogniseable songs. 3 or 4 chords. That's all. It really is that simple. And once you've learned to play those 3 or 4 chords it becomes easier to learn another chord and then another. Pretty soon you'll find you can play many songs that you love. At least that is what I have found.

My aim right now is to improve my songwriting and for an artist to record it. Maybe one day I will be able to do this full time and make a living at it.
