How I write songs This was going to be how I went about writing songs. What I did for inspiration or some other mumbo jumbo self indulgent twaddle, but I'm not like that. If I get the tune/song in my head I grab my guitar and play it as best as I can and record it there and then. I then work on it for a few hours to get it as best as I can for that first session. Then after that it's just a case of working on it to make sure it flows right and that the intro, verses, chorus, bridge and outro (for a regular song) are sounding as together as they can. There are times when I just sit with my guitar and play it to myself with the PC recording what I'm playing, sometimes a song comes that way. There I did it! A bit on how I do it, songwritingly. But seriously, I usually pick up the guitar and start playing nothing in particular. Sometimes it good, sometimes it isn't. Also I get tunes in my head and I just work them out on the guitar. And then there are those occasions when the entire song is just there, more or less, I can pick up the guitar and pretty much play it right off and the words are there as well. That's when it's easiest. |
