History of the MENAD Railroad Systems

The original layout was built in 1972 for the railroad company Wynde and Jeancy Systems, which later was absorbed into the MENAD Railroad Systems. Several pieces of the W & J S rolling stock are still running on the Menad today still in their W & J S colours. The W & J S started out with a single GP40 and an IHB 0-8-0 loco and about half a dozen pieces of rolling stock. It served a freight need for the district as well as moving coal from the local mine.

Today's MENAD Railroad Systems still looks after general freight as well as the coal. The locomotive roster has expanded greatly, with some twenty two diesels and nine steam locomotives. Rolling stock has also expanded with some one hundred and forty two units in thirty one classes.
